I’ve been struggling a lot trying to get this print right, and after battling with different ironing settings for days I figured I would ask for some advice.
As you can see, there are notable issues with the surface of this print, and this is with 12% ironing on the top surface.
When examining the sliced preview, I can see some ‘holes’ are visible due to Bambu Studio not filling in the whole surface, possibly due to the default line width. These ‘holes’ seem to align mostly with those shown in the actual print above.
I’m tentative to change line width settings as I tried this on a previous and less complex print and I was getting a plethora of issues, especially with adhesion. Even though I’m printing in PLA, this model is much more complex and requires several colour changes.
Any advice would be graciously received, it’s quite frustrating spending a lot of time on the model but consistently having this problem which makes the end result look of such poor quality
I think, this also calls for the “Arachne” wall generator instead of the default “Cpassic”. An option in the quality tab. The Arachne wall generator adaptively adjusts the line width to best fit the surface. While classic can only increase walls in steps of the line width, Arachne can even generate lines that grow in width until switching to 2 narrower lines.
Thank you very much for the advice - I trialled the print using the Arachne setting and it turned out much better. It’s still not perfect but the improvement is definitely there, and I’m planning to invest in a 0.2mm nozzle as another user suggested to try and push the results further.
Thank you very much for the advice - I actually didn’t know about doing an ironing calibration so I’ll try that, as well as looking into different top layer patterns. Unfortunately I couldn’t find a better way to orient the model, and I couldn’t see any errors or warnings in Bambu Studio. I’ve always been a bit tentative to use the ‘Fix Model’ option in Bambu Studio as I don’t totally understand how it works and a lot of the parts I print fit into other parts and I’m worried about it screwing up the tolerances I’ve set in my 3D modelling software.
For some reason it never occurred to me to try using a 0.2mm nozzle - thank you for mentioning that. I do print quite a lot of small parts so I’ve just purchased a hotend assembly with a 0.2mm nozzle from BL and excited to give it a try, although there does seem to be a bit of controversy from users due to adhesion issues and needing to spend some time dialing in the settings to get consistent results.
