Hi,
In Bambu Studio, the first colour is correctly displayed as grey, but the second is incorrectly shown as yellow instead of red. There is currently no yellow filament in the AMS at all.
Could I possibly ignore this, as it is the number rather than the displayed colour that matters, and since No. 2 is red and I want to print in red, it would still print correctly?

You need to synchronize the AMS to Studio.
I don’t have Studio installed so I can’t tell you exactly what the icon looks like but on the left side, inline with Filament there should be an icon that says synchronize when you hover on it.
I don’t find a button to synchronise.
Also, only two filaments are shown in the AMS, but there are actually four.
First on the device tab tell studio which colors are in the ams, then the sync button is next to the + - button in your image.

I’ve now synchronised it, but the second colour is still yellow instead of red, and there are suddenly five filaments, even though there’s only room for four.
Have you gone to the device tab and told it what is loaded in the ams? I should ask are you using Bambu filament? if so you dont have to tell studio what is in the AMS.
There are various ways of doing this , I probably do it wrong, use the - button and delete all the filaments then re sync.
Maybe to clarify the underlying concepts a bit: BambuStudio has two different sets of filament, that are almost unrelated.
One set is the filaments that are loaded in your printer / AMS. the device tab actually is more a remote control to setup your printer. There you can teach your printer which filaments are loaded in which slot. the fifth slot in addition to your AMS is the external spool holder. So, being in the device tab, if you see yellow instead of red filament in the second slot, it’s actually the printer that has a wrong configuration for slot 2. You can adjust that in the device tab or you could change it directly on the printer.The outcome is exactly the same and the information resides inside your printer.
The second set are the project filaments that you see in the prepare tab. As a convenience, you can import the printer configuration into a project if you want to, but that is by no means necessary. if you only need red PLA for a project, you are free to reduce the filament choice in the project to only one slot and select red PLA. In the drop down, BambuStudio also offers all filaments configured in the printer. If red PLA is in the printer, then this is a quick way to manually “synchronize” only that single filament to the project, so to say. But you can even select a filament/color that is currently not loaded at all, because you plan to load it once a currently running print has finished.
Only when you send a project to the printer, you have to map the filament in the project to the slots in the printer. That mapping dialogue does not allow to map different materials, but you are free to select the red pla in the project for printing as yellow filament from slot 2 of the printer.
Why that complicated distinction?
It allows you to to achieve two goals:
- you can prepare projects independently from what is currently loaded as in the example above. That is even more useful if you save projects for later and recurring printing.
- it allows to share projects with other people without having access to their loaded filaments. Most prominently, that could be projects uploaded on makerworld.
I couldn’t get the filament to switch from yellow to red in Bambu Studio, but that wasn’t a problem: I simply selected yellow and it printed in red.
But in the long run, it would be good if the correct colours were displayed.

I have also been having this issue lately, and I say lately because it did not use to work this way, where it just wouldn’t change. This started for me a few weeks ago. It seems it is not actually reading the RFID tag? This is also happening intermittently on the X2D with the AMS PRO. Also, during this time, Studio has been crashing a lot more than usual. As Alex_vG posted, that is exactly what I end up doing, and as Rusty35 mentioned, deleting them all. It seems for me, this issue is that the device tab is not accurate, so I start there. I would agree it would be nice if you set them in the device tab, it syncs to the filaments in the prepare tab. Thank you all for sharing, at least now I feel a little better that it is not just me or the machine.
I’ve just realised that you can also correct it in the printer, and it’s very simple. I’ve done that and now the correct version is showing up in Bambu Studio too.
So that seems to be the easiest way.
