My print pauses when the clumping alarm goes off. It the. Sends the nozzle over to the nozzle cleaner and waits for me to resume. When I say resume, the nozzle gets wiped and the print continues.
So who needs me? Why can’t it do this automatically? Then it could pause if it tries twice in a row and does not succeed. How hard is that?
The issue might be more severe than the wiper is capable of fixing. Or the print might have faults needing a reprint.
The machine wants you to check to be sure the clump is actually wipeable, first. The wipe attempt might bend the nozzle, or if severe enough, damage the printhead if the blob is big enough…
So… why not wipe first, ask later? Consider the original point?
That does consider the original point. The machine pauses, the OP doesn’t understand why, the reason has been explained, if the machine can’t be sure that it won’t do itself any harm it will wait for operator intervention before proceeding.
The only alternative is that the machine blindly proceed on the assumption everything will work out OK. But that can’t be guaranteed. So that wouldn’t make much sense, no?
In addition to the fine points already made, possibly causing damage trying to wipe off a clump, consider that the detection isn’t perfect in the first place. There’s no guarantee it will detect a “failed wipe.” Maybe it only got partially removed, or the blob ends up trailing along behind the nozzle or whatever. Plus if there was an issue one time, it’s probably a good idea to watch the print as it continues anyway, at least for a while. If it needs to keep wiping off blobs during a print, that to me suggests some overall issue with material or settings.
