I have been trying to print some parts with 5/8" horizontal threaded holes. Im using my P1S with a .4mm hardened nozzle. Im printing with PA6-CF. I know thru trial and error its not going to be a perfect hole I end up cleaning the holes with a thread tap. I was just wondering how you guys are doing it or if its even possible. I end up with a lot of strings at the top of the hole depending on the material. I haven’t tried supports on the part in the hole just because I thought it would be hard to remove and a pain to clean the left over bits out of the threads. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Aloha
It’s design for manufacturing problem.
I’d advise reading:
and combining the tips for horizontal holes and threaded parts into one.
Also - there are some great tips regarding printability of certain features on this YT channel:
Thank you for the info I will get to reading.
Options I would consider depending on what that hole is used for:
- Plain Hole with extra walls + Tap
- Threaded insert, either heatset or push fit if part geometry allows using flanged push fit inserts in correct orientation
