I’m a new user to a P2S and AMS 2 Pro and indeed 3D printing. I’m gradually learning the tricks for success, but I was surprised to find that the external spool holder couldn’t be used with my AMS to create 5 color options. Just as a manual feed.
Then I saw various options for filament line splitters. How do they work? Is it still a manual feed process or is the P2S able to see the alternative colors, how would they be selected?
I found the article “Connection Guide for Multiple AMS Units with Different Printer Models” so I can see how the 2nd AMS would be connected and the recommended extras. Should I assume that the units SW display and Handy / Studio will then show 8 reels and allow selection from them? Automatic, but at a cost….
The limitation is the lack of a feed motor on the external spool. The printer is not able to load and unload that slot at will.
The “line splitter” is pretty much just a funnel. It allows multiple inputs to be condensed down to one. When the AMS unloads, it removes all of the filament from the line. These do not have electronics in them, it is just a simple device.
For 2 AMS units, Handy and Studio do display both AMS units and you will have the ability to choose from them. It pretty much is just another copy of what you already see.
I was thinking more of the manual splitter. My external reel shows the color I last used, although it’s no longer in position, so I assumed a manual splitter would also display the last color uploaded.
