How easy does the Bambu 85A TPU print on the H2D?

I have zero problems with 95A.

I once tried 65A on a different machine, and it was a distaster.

How are people finding the Bambu 85A?

Bambu’s tpu is alloyed with something, likely PLA or Nylon, it prints pretty well.

I’ve used sirayatech’s 85A on an A1, handled it just fine. You might need to take your top off and direct hang the TPU outside of PTFE lines.

Might want to look into the top mount if you’re planning on doing it a lot or need some accuracy in the print, but otherwise it’ll feed through the TPU opening fine.

On my first attempt I destroyed my extruder. Apparently it tangled or whatever, I got an error about extruder load and when I went to see what happened there was filament coming out between somewhere behind the cutter arm. I carefully pulled everything out, which was kinda easy because it was chewed so not full “thickness” but my extruder gear is split and I think my servo is also behaving weirdly, of course it won’t turn the now broken wheel but it also hums in a way it didn’t use to . I hope it’s just because of no load but I’ll find out tomorrow when I replace the gear.

85A wasn’t too bad, especially compared to other filaments like PVA. The loading process is a bit different requiring the use of all the bypasses, and because it is a softer, more porous TPU you need to be careful of how fast it picks up moisture so dry it well.

I made some very clean and well fitting gaskets. It’s also important to note that the 85A is not compatible with the standard 0.4mm nozzles. I did it anyways with geometrically simple prints and it worked, but if you’re running into issues I’d try the recommended nozzle.

Somebody said they dropped the 85A into the H2D by telling the printer it was 90A. I even reduced speeds by a quarter but it got tangled instantly as well:

I tried disassembling the extruder but I could not get the light grey part out like they instructed in the wiki so no way to get the filament out. I already tried just pulling it firmly, but only when I pulled from the top with all my might I got it to untie and release.

I popped the same spool into my 8 year old Dutchy and it is now pushing the bambu 85A like a champ at 25% faster than the H2D 90A setting:

I really like my H2D but I think the extruder is just too complicated for the TPU. You might get it to work, but there just shouldn’t be enough space for filament to buckle. If there is a way out of the filament path, TPU will find it.

I am hesitant to try the 85A on my A1 but I wouldn’t be surprised if it performed better than the H2D, just because it is simpler.

This is of course just my one-off experience and I am hesitant to try it again. I think I’ll stick to the 90A for the H2D for now…

I printed it feeding from above, works great. I have done the same thing with Bambu and other branded 85A with an A1 as well, also works great.

I don’t like feeding even 95A thru the tubing, it can stretch the filament too much giving you all sorts of issues and even if it works you can wind up underextruding.

Loading directly into the extruder from above is really annoying on the H2D which is so tall I cannot reach when it stands on a workbench. Also, it tends to have AMS units on top of it.

If I printed a huge amount of TPU I might consider getting another printer specifically for it.

That being said, I am printing 95A on the H2D just fine though the external feed at the rear of the machine. The softer ones can be problematic. Varioshore TPUs might work better, these stretch only when heated allowing you to feed it in normally and set the nozzle temperature to choose the shore hardness.

I print a lot of 95A and 90A. All of it goes through the bypass and no problems at all on H2D.

i printed it with no issues, but you wanna feed it directly into the extruder. And make sure your spool can rotate with no friction. The Wiki guide from bambu works really well, though you might wanna print it slow.

Printing 85A, you really need to top mount the spool. I tried every lazy way not to remove the top with AMS 2 Pro and HT. It’s just too much frictions. It ends up printing underextruded.

Maybe the 95A+ higher will works with the tube out at the back.

Sirayatech’s 85A on a top spool loaded fine and printed on the right extruder for me.

My h2d is going nuts trying to print peba 85a - it keeps starting to print, suddenly stops to do nozzle cleans, asks if the filament is stuck, etc. Get is squared away, does the same thing over and over - too much AI involvement?

Your nozzle might be contaminated/partially clogged up? Do a few cold pulls. I use a dedicated nozzle for TPU because my regular nozzles all do what you said even with a cold pull it is finicky. Using a nozzle that has only printed TPU always works for me.

I have a dedicated nozzle for tpu/peba, and the nozzle is extruding just fine during the “filament change” part of startup. Then it goes to the nozzle wiper area of the build plate, fools around over there (not moving), then goes full right, cuts the filament, and then complains about cut filament, goes back to the poop chute, accepts another feed, extrudes a bunch, and repeats the process. If by a miracle is gets past that, it starts laying down some filament, suddenly stops and goes back to the cleaning/cutting/complainig routine. After 3 hrs I gave up, printed what I needed out of tpu on my p1s without ussue. Truly baffling.

Btw, I’m also direct feeding from above, the filament is dry, etc. Cold pulls look fine. That side printed Pla just fine afterwards (no head/extruder issues) Doing everything I’m supposed to, printer just doesnt want to cooperate. I was able to print Saraya tech 95a peba with the same rig a week ago, now it hates anything flexible

I would try to find out what has changed then since you printed the PEBA.
There might be some debris in the extruder, or possibly something wrong with the nozzle.

Did you have a firmware update in between? You might try to rollback that also and verify the issue is still there.

I have been using the tpu air stuff that changes shore hardness with temperature. as it’s stiffer in the extruder and squishy after the print head, it seems to be working better
