How to feed a external spool to the left nozzle of the X2D? Do I need to go tru the ‘buffer’ where the AMS 2 pro pfte tube is connected? Or can I just feed it directly ( with a 4way splitter ) in the X2D? Same question for the right (aux) nozzle?
Generally always use the filament buffers. All AMS but also the external feeder not able to feed smooth enough the filament. The head uses small amount and the AMS or the external feed (over the aux extruder) causes much bigger pulls. Buffer smoothing those big drags and avoid issue in the head under printing.
Also small note external spool not recommended. I give it a try with X2D Combo (come with 1 AMS2Pro). Two color in the AMS and secondary color (secondary most used) in the external spool. After print completed I see the secondary color (on the aux head) have drying issue meanwhile my room humidity was just 31% but the material still pulled out humidity over the 10 hour print time.
So better quality print if you just use any AMS over the closed PTFE tunnels to feed X2D due drying needed. No more external spool for me.
Made a 2in1 with a strait line input ( TPU…) and it work flawless. Even for doing large mono color prints I use the direct input. No more clicking of the buffer and shorter PTFE distance.The extruder motor has no problems feeding the nozzle ( even a highflow).
You don’t have to use the external buffer, but I do.
For TPU,I was forced to bypass the buffer and feed directly into the back of the printer because otherwise the extruder wouldn’t extrude it..
Is there any actual documentation about this? As far as I can tell, the buffer is purely for communication with the AMS to tell it when to feed some more filament. The H2 series machines use it for filament tangle detection but the X2D doesn’t seem to. Older article but it seems to relate to the point of the article. Bambu AI support also seems to point to it not being useful for much besides the AMS.
Feeding through a buffer with no AMS is likely to increase filament path resistance so you’d actually be better off NOT feeding an external spool through the buffer…
