I would like to license some prints How do I do this.

I was to buy a license. Who From??
Is it through makers and good for any product they have on the web sight?
Do l have to contact the original owner of the print. Is it only for the items we agree on? What is the scale of pricing ie each, by dollar, by the year?
Okay. So you want to license prints from others.
There are 4 options:
- Commercial membership through MW
- Commercial membership through a service like patreon.
- Free Commercial licenses
- And probably others like crowdfunding campaigns
You can contact someone. If they dont have one of those options set up.
This will all depend on the creator. This information is available when you click on someone’s commercial license.

Locate any of their models and look for them telling where to locate their commercial license.
Find a better designer.

Some have one, some have two, many have none.
You MUST have an active commercial license to sell models. You can’t sign up for one month, print for one month and sell for many months.
We send murderers to settle such disagreements.

Just to add to the confusion, it depends on the model. There are a number of licenses people can publish their models under here and each has different restrictions on how the models can be used.
Many post their models such that they can be downloaded, printed, and sold out the wazoo for free.
Best to learn about the licensing restrictions and then see what model’s you want to print may require.
Many here also do programs where you pay them some recurring amount and can print their models with whatever restrictions they might have in place for the duration of recurring payment but I’m sure there are other arrangements out there too.
Here’s different licenses that are used here just on the models themselves. A fair number of conditions/restrictions like if redistribution is allowed, modifications, etc. You can find this list when you submit a model here for publication. The creator chooses.

I think more models are “no license for prints” than not. I’m always looking for ones to license, but so far I only license from three prolific designers. When I see a model I’d like to sell prints from, and it says a license can be purchased, I look at the output of that designer. In almost all cases the one model I like is the only model I like or would want to sell, so I pass. It is only worth it to me if the designer has a bunch of models I’m interested in. As I said, so far that number of designers for me is three, but between them they have more than a thousand models I’m interested in, so I may never get to all of them.
You don’t need to spend money on someone’s commercial license just to be able to sell it. Just find another similar model somewhere else, with a license like cc-by or gnu gpl, and you can sell it because it’s open source. Try Printables if Makerworld doesn’t have any free-to-sell licensed models, because Printables is very well known for open source.

That’s unfortunately not always true. There are people who take other peoples’ models and post them as their own to get downloads, boosts, points, etc.
A model may have a non-restrictive license but actually be a model that’s very restricted.
I only bring this up because “similar models” may be rip-offs of originals with different licenses. It’s up to anyone looking to sell or monetize models in some way to make sure they still aren’t infringing.
