How to make surface finish more uniform

Hi everyone,

I printed FiberForce Lavender PLA using the generic PLA profile in Bambu Studio.(Printer A1)

The print came out fine overall, but I noticed a difference in surface finish — some areas look matte, while others appear smoother or slightly glossy, probably due to differences in print speed.

My goal is to achieve a uniform finish across the entire part.

What settings in Bambu Studio would you recommend to make the surface more consistent?

You have not explained where the zoomed in image is taken.

It is likely due to either changes in speed when printed or the geometry of the surface causing direction changes resulting in the effect you are concerned with.

Are you concerned with the intentions of the wall if we are to be concerned with crossing it?

You’re right — the previous image wasn’t very clear. On the purple piece, the matte area corresponds to the yellow zone in Bambu Studio, printed around 170 mm/s.
When the speed drops to around 63 mm/s, the surface becomes noticeably shinier.

I’ve had similar results (though much less visible) with Bambu’s Silk Grey PLA as well.

The problem is the change of layer time from big print area to small. The toolhead moves much more slowly in the small area but by the same temperature. You have to print the hole part more slowly or decrease the nozzle temperature for the small areas, i think.

i was just looking at this , is speed determined by these default settings or purely based in the geometry ? can you change speed manually by layer ?

Using layer height modifiers, yes.

  • Right-click the model and add the layer height modifier.
  • In the prepare tab, select the object from the object view, likely already done by adding the modifier
  • Expand each triangle to expose the Layers list if nit already visible
  • While selecting the layers heading, use the plus sign at the bottom list to add as many areas as required and change the from and to heights in mm
  • Select each one under the layer heading and the adjust the settings below for each one.

You could try to set the Outer wall speed to the lowest preview, i.e. 63mm/s.

I used a height range modifier and adjusted the wall speed for the thinner section of the model, as suggested. It helped to make the surface much more consistent.
