How to print lower part of object using different filament w/AMS

I am trying to print a shift knob with a nut at the base. I want to print the nut in silver, the rest in white and the logo on top in black. When I paint the nut and slice it, it prints the outer layers of the nut in silver but leaves the inner layers white, adding many unnecessary filament changes.
Since the object is “painted” I cannot add/use the “change filament” option as it is greyed out if painted.
Anyway I can do this?

Shifter knob

You need to make the Nut a separate object and load the knob and nut as a combined object, and then you can assign a filament color to the nut and the entire nut will be that color.

When painting, select the “Height Range” tool and use that to paint the nut yellow.

Yup! That did the trick!
Thanks!
