How to properly print over top of an inserted object

I have downloaded the 1L cube and I am exploring things I can do with this cool object. I want to pause the print at layer 349 which is the layer 69.8 to 70.3, in the 3MF that I have included. I will insert a solid cube to fill the space then resume the print over it. 1st problem is the slicer thinks its empty space and is complaining. I am thinking this has to fit very precisely or my next layer will not bond well to the object. how can I ensure this layer that is right over the top of the inserted object bonds well so the print can be well supported going up. there are a lot of tiny verticals that have to line up perfectly. I thought I if I could force the slicer to bridge across the whole span of the object but I dont know how to do that. The slicer wants to turn the corners of the little squares on top of the insert. I did try to single out that specific layer to make adjustments but I dont know what to do. As long as I have been printing I’m still a noob, LOL ! please help. Thanks.

Have you tried adding a shape that perfectly fits the model as your eventual cube will and changing the ‘type’ to support blocker?

This should tell the browser you accept the risks.

You would first need to add the primitive cube to your existing model (merge) and the adjust the x, y and x-axis.

I took the 1l cube and added a negative cube to create the void in the very same size that I will add the insert. The slicer recognizes it as overhangs but will not print in long lines across the space but continues to try to print in the short squares that make up the original 3d design. My thoughts are that if it printed as if it were bridging a long span the filament would lay nicely on the surface of the insert but as it slices now it has many stops and starts on the surface of the insert trying to print individual squares. Hard to explain best to view and slice the 3mf then look at that single layer. Buuuut, I Re read your post and saw you said to change the primitive to Support Blocker…….hmmmm. I will have to explore this.

I just changed the Primitive from negative cube to support blocker and that simply removes the voiding effect of the negative cube. The 1L cube prints normally without the void in the center. Also I have been slicing WITHOUT supports enabled.

If I’m understanding what you want to do correctly, you can’t do it the way you’re trying to do it. When you remove some of the structure with a modifier, the slicer assumes you’re doing whatever you need to do to make the void “work” correctly. It just resumes printing the object at the edges of the void as if the void wasn’t even there. If there’s no plastic there (or whatever you inserted, that the plastic doesn’t stick to) for the extrusion to stick to, the print will fail.

If you want a “box” embedded in the structure, you are going to have to model that in to the object. You can’t (well, I’m pretty sure) do it with a modifier.

So, I loaded your .3mf. I generated a 39 mm x3 cube in studio and printed it. I then printed the file and only changed the filament to what I had on hand, BBL Mistletoe green. When the printer paused, I inserted the cube. Hit resume and off it went.
