Just RENAME filament without ANY CHANGES and without some weird WORKAROUND?
I think it will be easy, like renaming a file… but not…

If you click the “…” in the project filaments, can’t you just save it with the new name? (it copies the settings)
Go to “Project Filaments”, than press “gear” button (+ - ams gear), than go to Custom Filaments and you will have list of Custom Filaments
And that’s all… You can only “Delete” or “Edit” it, but you can’t rename it
About you suggestion - When I press “…” I can save “new preset” for filament (whose name you can’t change), not new filament
Lets say I create “Black Filamennnt” in “Custom Filament” tab
Than I go Project Filaments, choose “Black Filamennnt” and press “…”
Than I save it like “Black Filament”
Now I still have “Black Filamennnt” with “Black Filament” preset in it, but I doesn’t find a way how to rename “Black Filamennnt” into “Black Filament”
Also I can’t delete “Black Filamennnt” because “Black Filament” is based on “Black Filamennnt” etc etc etc
In the prepare window added to the project the filament you want to copy, click on the round circle with three dots(edit preset), select edit, select save( button to the right of filament name), save window pops up with current name, just change the name and hit save.
as I say earlier this will create new preset for current filament, not new filament
Sorry I never saw any posts other than the initial when I replied.
If it’s a custom filament you can go into project filament>custom> click the green pencil in the box and delete the entire filament or any preset.

Bambu decides the system filament names. You cannot change those names from Studio without making a copy.
It is possible to change the names by editing the .json files, but that is not practical. You would have to do it again after every update of Studio or the system filament profiles.
If you want custom filament names, you need to modify existing filament profiles and save them with the new names.
Im asking how to Rename custom filament names, what I create, not system filament names…
But, as I see from current discussion, its not possible… its like “if you will create file in windows/macos such file with such name will be forever in you computer and only possible way to rename it its to delete it and create it one more time”… really stupid situation…
I’ve never seen Bambu or anyone else explain why they added the complexity of Custom filaments to System and User Presets. What is the advantage? Does it somehow benefit Makerworld/Handy?
All my presets are based on a Generic preset, edited and then renamed as I wish using the preset editor - the 3 dots next to each project filament. Settings are inherited only from one system preset, not multiple “ancestors” and I can delete unused User presets I wish.
I don’t use the filament “cog” to change a name, I use the 3dot icon to open the preset editor.
In the filament preset editor, select the custom filament to be renamed.
Click the floppy disk Save icon.
Edit the name, choose User preset, click OK.
Click the new name to open the dropdown list of filaments, select the old filament User preset.
Click the “X” between the save icon and the Search magnifying glass.
Click Yes.
Done. I have a preset with a new name and the old preset is gone.

You have to edit the .json file. Then import it as a setting. You will be asked if you want to overwrite the existing setting.

Select the filament, click the 3 dots, choose Edit.
Click the floppy disk icon, edit the filament name, click OK.
This action will NOT change filament name, it will create new preset under OLD filament name
ok - try it by yourself
go to Custom Filaments, press “Create New” and create new filament
Vendor - Test, Type - PETG, serial - Bleck (yes, Bleck, not Black) and save it
Now open Custom Filaments again (see my previous post with printscreen) and you will see “Test PETG Bleck” - try to change this name at this tab to “Test PETG Black”

Sure, it’s simple. Maybe your naming is different because I’m using German but I try to translate:
In Bambu Studio use command “Show configuration folder” from help menu (maybe you need developer mode turned on in settings before) to open your file explorer.
Navigate to folder user/idnumber/filament/base. This is on Mac but Windows is nearly the same as I remember. There you will find your .json files.
Copy your files to a different location and edit them. The attribute you want to change is filament_settings_id and name. Don’t change filament_id. Otherwise your profile will not be overwritten but imported as a new one. If you want to change filament_id for whatever reason, you have to delete your existing profiles before importing the new ones.
A backup of the folders filament, machine and process is alway a good idea even if you have the sync feature turned on in setting in case bambu has a data loss.
