How to Slice MakerWorld Designs for All Bambu Lab Printers

I create various designs and enjoy uploading them to MakerWorld.

From time to time, users report that they have problems printing my designs directly from the app.

What is the correct way to slice a design in Bambu Studio so that it can be printed on all Bambu Lab printers?

For example, with this design for a robotic lawn mower, some users say they cannot print it on the P1 printer:

Is there a comprehensive guide explaining exactly what I need to do in order to create properly compatible slices for all printer models?

P1 printers are not one I usually have issue with, but the way I ensure they will work is by slicing it for that printer in BambuStudio.

I usually do this for X1C, A1, and sometimes A1 mini (if small enough) to ensure they will work. This checks that all the clearances for those machines are fine.

In studio, just change the printer from here, which allows slicing for any model printer listed,

currently a H2c

Facing the printer, in the left front corner of the build plate there is an exclusion zone on P1 and X1 printers. On plate one of your print profile the model is in the exclusion zone. If the two pieces were divided with a plate for each, there wouldn’t be a problem. I do this on models that can be printed on A1 minis. That is to put only enough parts on a plate that will fit on an A1 mini. Those with larger machines can always gather parts together on a larger plate, which comments seem to indicate many do.

Yeah, same way as I do since ever. So this means, if I slice a printer with P1 as chosen printer, the created 3MF is also working for H2C, H2D, A1 etc., right?

Then I do not understand, why some people have trouble to print my designs.

OK, yes that’s what I sliced for my H2C, I also have a H2D and A1 Mini.

On every one of it I can do the print, but some users have trouble to print from the app on P1 and P2 and I do not understand why.

What I just saw in the Bambu App on my profiles, there is no P1 printer supported with the print profile.

Any idea why is that? I did everything with Bambu Studio as always.

The issue is the build plate size on the target printer you used when slicing.

You need to keep in mind that certain printers appear to have the same print vomited, but they don’t.

If you target the A1 (not mini), your print will not work on the P1 or the X1 series.

The reason; the front left area is not printable because it is where the head presses against the wall to cut the filament.

The A1 does not have this ‘void’.

If you want the maximum compatibility, you target the A1 mini. For models that do not fit on the A1 mini, you target the P1 series (X1 series is also fine).

Another issue is the failure of Bambu Lab to correctly identify the print envelope for any projects that include one or more ‘print by object’.

You will often need to target the A series, P1 & X1 series, and H2 series separately otherwise you risk excluding the others. This means at least three profiles. I have t seen where the P2 or X2 series fall, I hope they are compatible with the P1 & X1 series.

The A1 series in particular has very different and much more restricted ’print by object’ capabilities than all the other printers which utilise core XY movements due to the way the head and x-axis bar encroach on the build area.

OK, thanks for clarification and info, that makes totally sense!

In my case, A1 mini does not fit for this project, so I will chose P1 while slicing.

But know that what I do not understand: I have to slice that P1 profile and then what exactly, it fits also for H modells?

Or do you mean I have to slice more than one 3MF profiles?

e.g:

  1. Project mower stand sliced for P1.3mf
  2. Project mower stand sliced for H2C.3mf

etc.?

I just want one 3MF file that fits for all/most printers.

Provided you don’t use print by object, targeting the P1 series should give you the whole range except the A1 mini.

If you look at the printers, the least to most available build plate sizes are as follows.

  • A1 mini = 180 × 180 × 180 mm³**
  • P1 & X1 series = 256 × 256 × 256 mm³ (cut out)
  • A1, P2S = 256 × 256 × 256 mm³
  • X2D = 256 × 256 × 260 mm³ ^^
  • H2C = 330 × 320 × 325 mm³ ^^
  • H2S = 340 × 320 × 340 mm³
  • H2D = 350 × 320 × 325 mm³ ^^

So if you target the smallest your model will fit, the rest with larger build plate volumes will also accommodate the model.

Most people do not realise the A1 has a greater volume than the P1 and X1 series.

^^ Be conscious that the total available space is reduced in width for a single nozzle as the left and right portions reduced by the width of the other print head. The total accessible width can only be achieved if both nozzles are in use and have the correct filaments available to match whatever the model requires at both furthest edges.

Ok, thanks again for your help! I just tried to create a new print profile as 3MF file.

I chose the P1S printer and added the plates and the STL files, did the settings and sliced and stored as 3MF.

Can you take a look if that would work now for the other printers?

Before Uploading

For you and anyone else.

When you get a printer profile ready to upload, it shows a list of all printers you could achieve when you actually confirm the upload.

This is NOT the list of supported printers. It is just a list where you can manually selected their inclusion or exclusion.

This is useful if you make printer specific layout and wish to differentiate between them.

For example an A1 mini profile and one for all others. The A1 mini profile could be used by all others, but it will be slower due to likely compromises like layout changes requiring multiple prints rather than one single build plate.

For this example, upload the A1 mini profile, name it as such and untick all other printers. Upload the main profile, name it as such and untick the A1 mini, although that likely wouldn’t appear due to how you laid things out, it is just ‘belt and braces’.

After Uploading.

When the profile has been uploaded and verified, the list of actual supported printers is listed below it.

If I am unsure, I mark the profile as private before confirming upload. This way I get to check, if it worked, change it to public, if it did not, work out why and upload the change before repeating the process of checking.

^^ This is a poor way to tell the designer By the way, if you use this common feature, good luck figuring out how or if we support it on one or more printers.
