How to use PA6-CF with support materials in AMS or AMS Pro?

I have read instances where people have used PA6-CF with support material in the AMS. I thought it was one or the other. You could either use AMS or have to feed filament external. Since PA6-CF can’t go in the AMS and has to be fed externally, how are people using support material in the AMS or AMS Pro for PA6-CF?

It -can- be done but just at the risk of wearing everything down very quickly.

I’ll save you some trouble. The support for PA/PET is trash. If you follow the prompts and let it set it up for a 0z gap on the interface, you won’t be able to get the support material off. Kind of defeats the purpose.

So I am not missing something then, you are not supposed to but CF material in the AMS or AMS Pro?
You support abrasive materials with the same material?

It’s not advised for some of them depending on how brittle they are. As long as the filament isn’t super brittle it can run in the ams. You just have to keep an eye on accelerated wear on the tubes, feeder funnels, and gears. Some of them if they’re super rough may cause too much resistance depending on how your tubes are ran.

I’ve ran pa6-gf, pa-cf, and tons of PETG-cf and petg-gf in the ams without issue. Just make sure they’re dry.

As for the supports, just use supports like you would for any other filament.

@flabbyorca pva is a low temp filament. If you need dissolvable support material for nylon, you’ll want to use BVOH.

The H2d asm 2 pro says not supoprted and wont load the PA6CF. how do you force the load?

My new P2S Combo is on the way to me and I too want to print using PA6-CF. If I pre dry it, can I use it on the external spool holder? I worry that it will not be kept dry although humidity in my house is low - is that an OK approach? I’m planning on printing parts like suspension arms for RC cars - what other materials might I consider that will run through the AMS?

I don’t know how fast PA absorbs water in your environment but I have done that before with no issues. However, I wouldn’t print inside your house. You will be breathing in all the particulates from the filament heating and melting. Anything with CF I would not run through the AMS
