How to write a text under an object

Hello,

I tried to add a text in a bottom of an object.

If I add a text with the text option, I can see it but when I sliced it, there is no text. Why ?

I put an example.

Thank you for your help.

Hi,

I’m not surprised the parts of the text below the build plate didn’t get sliced at all, but what was odd is that the embedded parts of the text also didn’t show up, even though that’s a different filament.

Playing with it a bit, it seems to be related to the painting on the model. If I remove all painting, it works as expected (white text embedded in bottom). If I remove all and then re-paint a few of the top surfaces again, it also still works. I didn’t try re-painting the whole thing.

At first I tried removing paint from around the bottom text area (shift-click-drag in paint tool) but that didn’t seem to change anything.

However it does seem like the dark blue filament color is painted onto the model, even though the default filament is already the dark blue. I changed the inner “Shaony” part color to a new one but the outside stayed dark blue.

So… it seems the painting of the surface is interfering with the white text filament being used inside the model itself, which for me is an interesting discovery. Even if the part with a different filament embeds much further into the object than “paint penetration layers” settings. If I change any other setting for the text part, like number of walls, then the whole thing is embedded properly (shows up in the layers) but still doesn’t use the white filament.

The top text works because it sticks out, of course, but if that is changed to have any embedded depth, the same issue can be observed there as well (the white filament doesn’t start until the first protruding layer after the dark blue).

Thank you for your helping.

Can you tell me what do I need to make now ?

For the right things, the object is made by ambiorix.m (Volleyball keychain). I just choose my PLA matte color. After, I write the text under (on the 1st couch).

Ultimately you should figure out what works best for you in this situation.

One option would be to make sure the text on the bottom is completely flush and doesn’t protrude at all. See Make flush prints for two examples given there of doing that in the slicer. Mostly you just need to take what you have and reduce the height to minimum but keep the depth. However, the text must be a part in this case, not a modifier. Because in the next step we have to paint it and you can’t paint a modifier.

After you have your text flush, or almost, flip the whole object over (lay it on the top side) and paint white filament on the letter surfaces. Using the fill tool with “same color” should make this quick. [EDIT: flipping it to paint might not actually be necessary… but Studio may complain if any of the text sticks out below the build plate.]

Then lay the object back over onto the bottom side.

Hope that helps,

There is an issue with the STL colouring of the model. I did however figure out how to fix this.

Right click on the model and “Fix Model”

This fixes the bottom text problem but you do however lose the top colouring and will need to repaint it.

Use the Fill and edge detection and it’s pretty simple to repaint it.

Is the model really broken? Erasing all paint also has the same effect, requiring a re-paint of the whole thing. Which I was also going to suggest at first.

The edge bits around the hole requires a more careful brush though. IMHO that tiny piece to the left of the hole isn’t going to print well anyway and will be brittle. But :person_shrugging:

Thank you.
I didn’t find the ‘Fix model’ but I use your file and it’s working.
