How well does the stock air filtration work?

I’ve not looked at the H2D enclosure closely yet, but if it’s an “enclosure” like the X1 Carbon, it’s not an enclosure. It’s more like a safety shell… Leaky as hell.
I got a cheapo 45$ 3d printer tent enclosure off amazon and called it quits.

I’m continually saddened by the printers I see without air-tight enclosures, thinking of the millions of people being poisoned by plastic/solvent particulates.

Oh good to hear that, I was thinking to open door slightly while printing ABS in my room. Thanks

I printed this AMS Stacking Stand with Bambu ABS and didn’t notice a single smell.

I’m finding that I can smell ABS being printed despite having a room air filter going and a window slightly open. But it’s MUCH less than when I was printing the same material on the P1S.

But the initial poop smell is not great either. I looked on MW for an enclosed poop chute leading to a closed box but I can’t find one, perhaps I missed it. I think this would be a good idea though, especially for filament changes with regular poops. Has anyone seen one?

Yes its a good idea for sure as there is a lot of air leaking from the poop opening on the printer when printing ABS. I had an enclosed down pipe on my X1 and P1 as well as tension belt covers, and it helped with the fumes. There will be an H2D model out soon for an enclosed poop chute, ill let you know when its ready.

Also I found adding one of these helped a lot with the ABS smell:

Oh nice. I was thinking of making a super over-engineered one with TPU flexible ducting to accommodate the machine movement haha. And maybe space for more carbon too.

Yes I was thinking of doing a HEPA that attaches magnetically to the back of the printer exhaust port as I had that on my X1 and P1, it was PETG filter holder with built in TPU gasket, but I could not find a suitable filter. Also with this you are not limited to a smaller filter size, and it filters the air that leaks from the poop chute and other holes on the printer. Ive noticed a big difference with it and also its only $35 so very cheap as are the replacement filters from IKEA. The carbon filter can indeed hold a lot of carbon.

I found one recently, which might fit that need. H2D Modular Magnetic Waste Chute - Poop bin by RileyDesignsMakerWorld: Download Free 3D Models

I am in the process of modding it though, because in my case, it currently collides with the 90-degree smoke hood (from Clough42). I’ll upload my version when I get around to finishing it.

I saw that too! I didn’t love how the filament could catch on the bottom flange though, but I like the idea of having a piece stay on the printer. I might do something like that

not sure about the bento box, but it does a worse job than my other custom mod on my x1c when printing abs. no internal circulation is a pretty dumb idea to be honest.

Just finished designing V3. This snaps onto the back of the housing with 2x3 mm round magnets. Since I started Andor season 2, I think the Sci-Fi aesthetic has seeped into me. So I had to resist my minimalistic, Bauhaus training ^^ but ultimately the ribs provide strength and the angle prevents a collision with the exhaust hose while extending the volume of waste collection. It’s printing in PLA-CF now, so I will post the result when possible in the next day or two.

So you just reach around and grab it? I suppose, with the magnets, it is easy enough to re-attach it

Yep, the 4 magnets are very strong. The really nice part of the OP’s design is the mounted base plate, which is screwed to the housing. So ya, no precision involved, the magnets take care of that.

So, happy to share that everything printed and mounted well. I just published the model, in case anyone’s interested: H2D Magnetic Waste Catch

I’m taking a different… turn (haha) on this, it’s not fully enclosed but I think a lot of the smell comes from when the toolhead fan blows on the purge so this longer and restricted air path should help a lot.

Full vent clearance too.

But I think a round tube would look better so I’ll test this and then perhaps make a round one.

Interesting thought.
But now it’s hard to keep track of poop getting stuck in the chute.

A transparent top possibly an idea?

99% of the time, when people print high temp, stinky stuff, its a single color. One poop. It has magnets so that it doesnt have to be permanently mounted. Pop on for abs, pop off afterwards.

Edit: I thought you were talking about the sealed one cvd posted.

That’s a great idea, maybe the whole thing should be printed from clear PETG

That’s a great concept with the sliding lock setup! I was considering something along the same lines using a 2-1/2" dust collection hose, since I already have some for my cutting tools and have it routed to the large, sealed-lid waste bin.

Probably doesn’t help much, but PETG is pretty much odourless when printing… suggesting as an alternative to PLA.
