I am buying an X2D, but I don’t know what accessories to buy with it. I was wondering if anyone had recommendations?
You should base your buying decisions on what you will do with the printer.
I am mainly going to print for hobby, but will gradually move into using it for prototyping for my medical startup.
I got an AMS HT, vision encoder plate, and an engineering plate for mine. I’ve been reasonably happy with my X2D after sorting out the feeding issues by printing a PTFE tube holder that smooths out the sharp turns of the stock path. Overall, I consider the X2 an upgrade to the X1.
I also ordered mine without an AMS 2. That’s a poor solution to multi-material printing. I haven’t used the aux nozzle much, but when I have, it did the support interface material quite well.
Were you saying the AMS 2 Pro is a poor solution to multi-material printing?
I think it is poor now that there are better solutions out there. That’s my opinion, others disagree.
It’s okay that thats your opinion, I personally disagree, probably because I haven’t used the system before, and I’ve heard lots of good stuff about it from Makerworld users like @Romans1x16.
Has anyone ever done any testing (is it even possible?) with this thing? How do consumers know it provides any benefit?
Yea.. I’ve got one for both the H2C and the X2D. I just trust the Bambu engineering, but I have no proof it helps other than trusting them.

You can get a 4 toolhead printer with heated chamber that is comparable to the X2D for the same price as the X2D combo. That’s what my opinion is based on. But other people like the AMS for other reasons… like auto spool switching and other features…

Creator 5 pro. I knew this was coming when I bought the X2D, but I didn’t buy the X2D for a multi-material printer other than the aux nozzle support interface feature.
They are generally good engineers who work for a somewhat sketchy company.
But, what company isn’t?
Okay, I have used older flashforges and they werent the best, maybe they have gotten better but I’ll probs stick with the BBL.
Hearing lots of good stuff doesn’t mean it will suit you personally.
For your prototyping needs, will you go for high temp filaments or will you mainly need multi material like for semi flex prosthetics and so on? If its the latter, consider that AMS2 is not capable of feeding soft grades of TPU (probably not PEBA either). There is the tpu assist module but I cannot vouch for it. Multi toolhead machines are the top choice for this specific application.
On the other hand engineering filaments like ASA/PA and so on, especially with a separate support material are very well suited for x2d.
As for other manufacturers, this is not 2021 anymore. Bambu is not the only company to make good quality user friendly machines. In some aspects others might even be more user friendly.. cough LAN mode cough
I won’t be doing prosthetics, I am creating a full on AI patient monitoring system, but its gonna take a couple years, and I don’t really have the budget right now for the dev of it, so its mainly gonna be hobby printing, when I do get to it, yes it will be materials like ASA or PA. This printer will probably be at least a general quality of life improvement over my Ender 3 S1. I’m gonna go order it now.
If you are printing engineering materials I would consider at least one AMS-HT. It will dry most engineering materials and feeds well into the X2D (I have three of them).
The AMS 2 Pro has some known issues with motor stalling due to friction through the PTFE tubes. This appears to be an issue with the internal hub in the AMS and there are work-arounds for this, but it can give some frustrations. I would still opt for the combo if you buy one.
Track Switch: I ordered one, but quickly decided to return it. The X2D has enough issues with filament friction and the mounting bracket, which you must print (not available from Bambu), and the assorted snorkels for the PTFE tubes is ridiculous. I simply use one AMS-HT for the auxiliary nozzle.
The TPU assist module is probably another option you really do not need. One person tried printing TPU with and without it and did not see much of a difference.
Engineering Plate: $30, get one. It will print everything.
Glue Stick: Get one. Also consider Bambu’s liquid glue for some engineering material.
Support Material: Depending on what you print, this will help with making parts with overhangs and allow separating finished part from the supports.
4-Way Filament Adapter: Make sure it is the latest version (smoked semi-clear plastic).
In a nuts shell as others mentioned, buy based on what you intend to print. Primary reason is that I am doing a home project and to purchase what I am doing, it would cost me a little over $700…so I figured I can buy a printer and print it all for about $10 (material cost only). As a secondary reason, I have an idea and plan to sell a product, but I need to learn more about slicer settings, printing, and custom content creating. I am new to 3D Printing and ALMOST bought the H2C. I bought an X2D but added in two AMS Pros. This way, the printer [X2D] is way cheaper in case I decide it isnt for me, but went with TWO AMS Pros. If it isnt for me (I dont need yet another project) i reduced my investment cost and can probably sell AMS much easier than a printer. In the case I love it, I can upgrade to an H2C and continue to use the two AMS. Well I love it! It is just a hobby for me (right now) so the minimal cost of poop is negligible to my pocket across a $13/spool (e.g. it is a LOT of spools before the jump in printer cost make a ROI on the poop). Colored figurings will poop alot but, I doubt I will ever print that much. The AMS is great because I don’t have to set up “Pause” to switch colors in multicolor prints…I can just say “Print” and go to bed :-). A slightly smaller print bed is no big deal for me right now as I am still printing plenty of useful products.
I also purchased a 0.2 nozzle, and it does sooo much better at small details and lettering, but that is the only time you want to use it (e.g.for small items requiring better resolution). The print time seems to scale pretty linearly, that is if the product prints in 10 hrs with a 0.4 nozzle you can assume it will be around 20 hrs with a 0.2 nozzle.
The 0.2 nozzle is MUCH more difficult to use, as I found major problems getting the purge tower to stick. Probably not a good buy until you get into tinkering with custom settings.
Creating custom products is a time-suck and probably the biggest drawback. I try not to create my own content but so far I did for three items and I am working on a fourth custom content. The fourth is my end goal and was my secondary reason I bought the printer. There are several different software programs out there, each having non-overlapping strong/weak points…I am still bouncing between different software programs to do different manipulations but that is probably just not knowing how to do something in one program but knowing in another.

I would resist the urge to buy a stock of potential replacement parts. I still have most of them laying around unused for my 3 year old X1C ![]()
I really love the 0,2mm nozzles. It opens up a new world of fine detail prints that are unthinkable of with the 0,4mm nozzles. I have ordered one for each head. Main use case is objects with small text in a different color.
I would not buy a larger nozzle like 0,6 or 0,8mm. The print speed advantage is very disappointing but details suffer a lot. If you feel the need for faster printing, I would rather add a 0,4mm HF nozzle. You can also print at 0,6mm or 0,8mm line width with at and faster than with a non-HF native 0,6 or 0,8mm nozzle. At least that was my experience with the X1C. But I’m confident that it applies to the X2D as well. Anyway I wouldn’t make thoughts about increasing print speed until you are sure that you really need it.
In my opinion, the only valid point for a 0,6mm nozzle is CF-filled filament in order to reduce risk of clogging.
The AMS 2 is certainly debatable. For me personally the point in it is less about multicolor or multimaterial printing but primarily convenience. I really love to have the most used filaments at hand directly from the slicer and very convenient loading. I like to compare it to central locking in your car. Do you get in your car without it? Sure, but who wants to run around the car to unlock all doors individually instead of pressing a button on your key? I even bought a second AMS just because I use more than 4 filaments regularly.
As a bonus it keeps your moisture sensitive filament dry at the same time.
But there are many who are totally fine without an AMS and it certainly isn’t for free.
