I didn’t bully the person. I was pissed that he submitted something as an exclusive model + in a contest + as a standard license, all of those that demand/communicate a certain level of originality that imo wasn’t there. I found it hypocritical. That led me to approach them a bit strongly, I admit.
There are some details, like the grooves to make paracords sit flush (if you are using that instead of a keyring), that were copied, and I am not even sure if the other creator knew what they were for.
I see that the consensus is that it is not a remix. I posed the question here exactly because this whole thing is still a bit of a gray zone to me.
I will message him that he doesn’t need to list it as a remix, but that 1. I would appreciate it if he doesn’t publish it as an exclusive/closed model, and 2. that I wouldn’t find it fair for him to submit it to a design contest.
@Downloaded_Goods My advice, for whatever it might be worth. I mean, I have the views stated above. So when people copy my stuff, even poorly, it’s just. I mean, it’s a little annoying/frustrating. I wish people would throw me some credit more, or whatever. I wish sometimes my models did as good as the copies.
You’re a good designer though. I see it in your clip, and taking a step back to look at all your wears again, it’s like oh yeah, that, that, that, that. All of these things that I remember, that stood out to me, that I’ve come across and thought wow that looks awesome.
I think you could give yourself a lot of frustration over people copying you, or you can lean into your design talents and continue to lead.

Judging by the simple look of the model, it is just about 10 minutes drawing from scratch in Fusion, but it could be hours trying to morph from one mesh into another.
FWIW I like your design better. I added it my queue, but just from aesthetics alone, it looks like the better device. If it is your original idea, you could patent it!
Maybe… But I just like designing and sharing, I don’t like the fuzz around it. The only reason I HAVE to track them down is because people pay me on Patreon to sell my designs and I want to do right by them by taking down illegal listings. I will most likely change this design to a CC license in the future once the downloads start fading away
I am often inspired by other designs and people are welcome to be inspired by my designs. Yes it would be better if the new designer had some own input (copying my mechanism but not my aesthetics or the other way around) but I can’t be too mad about someone not possessing some level of originality and creativity, they at least put in the effort to design instead of outright steal.
