You may find the inner cardboard spool is at fault , ive found one or two to be slightly higher on one side meaning the outer spool wont lock correctly, you need to double check the formation of the spools before removing the tape ,i have an image in orange still working correctly through the ams.

I think you’d be better off printing one of the drill attachments that respool than throwing it away.

The drill respoolers make an annoying task at least kind of fun. Put the donor spool on something with bearings and let it fly

Make sure the notch is aligned before you do anything. Also, make sure you have it aligned properly, I found they only go together one way. You might want to look into Anycubic spools, they screw together.
The trick to Bambu spools, put the left spool with the notch in your left hand, use the right hand for the other spool, put the refill on the left spool with the notch in place on the refill, then take the two halves and align the two holes on each side where filament is kept when not in use, rotate the right half until it engages the other spool, and then turn it some more clockwise until it locks. Practice on an empty until it become muscle memory and you will find yourself doing refills in under a minute.
Sunlu spools are different, you have to look at the insides of both halves, there are marks on the outer edge, above the notch. Same technique though, but align the arrow on the right spool with the one on the left spool and rotate towards the mark on the left spool. When you get them aligned they snap right into place, if you do it wrong you can bugger it up. It will still go together, but wont snap into place and then you have happen what happened to you, a blown apart spool with filament all over the place.

The Polymaker spools you can get on Makerworld are probably the best version of the 3D printed spools I’ve found. They’re great!
Never had an issue with refills, despite having gone through a ton of them. But, I feel for you. That sucks.
Yeah, I’ve got several spools of fiber that won’t fit in the AMS that a spooler would be useful for. It might be time to bite the bullet.

There’s a gadget called a “spool buddy” (I think it’s the name), a cone-shaped mandrel that guides the refill onto the spool half without damaging the cardboard inner core.

Do you have any idea why the barrels of each half are different?
I don’t know for sure, but I suspect the side you put the refill on first is slightly tighter, and the side you slide down into the spool has a slight amount of relief to prevent any holdups. Clearly, these were designed by an industrial designer. They lock together perfectly when they are quarter-turned. I printed two of them, One in ABS, and one in HT-PLA. That filament is astounding. I put it in my dryer at ~70c for 2 hours, and it didn’t warp at all. It got a tiny bit soft, but had no ill effects after being in room temp for about 10 seconds.
Are you using locking tabs on these spools? Some people never have issues, I’ve had this happen once and after printing and installing the locking tabs, I’ve yet to have this happen.

There are ones on MW that print as just an adapter to fit onto a power drill. From there you just rewind.
Even if you can find a good respooler, it won’t change the fact that you HATE refill spools. If I hated refills, I would stay away from them and buy only filaments that come with spools. Buy from other brands if Bambu doesn’t have the type or color.

Aside from the hate of the spools, this is the simplest answer. These locking tabs are included (or used to be) in the printable files for the BL spools.

Interesting tool but it doesnt help with the issue of the spool being slightly longer on one side of a surface ( like this /, probably from cutting with a dull blade as pointed out in the video ) the inner spool just needs squashing / cutting so the two slots can interlock… i downloaded for future reference though , thanks .
