I need help I’ve tried to print an item at least 12 times now and have no idea what to do now I’ve read virtually everything I can find on the issues I’m having I’ve followed various guides changed multiple settings made sure the pla I’m using is dry. Spent hours watching videos.
Textured Build plate has been cleaned multiple times. Printer is a H2D and using both hot ends I’ve changed filaments to either hotend. I’ve used different areas of plate and the other side.
It’s a multiple pla print 3 colours all Matt black, red and white all Elegoo. The print starts ok seems to adhere to the build plate then it starts to string and rips the items off the plate. Just as a quick guide I’ve adjusted nozzle temps, build plate temps, z hop, turned on avoid crossing walls and retraction I have genuinely tried now I’m out of ideas.
I’m considering setting the printer back to factory settings and hopefully someone on here can explain what to do.
I’ve added some pictures of issue of a print I’ve tried afterwards using single filament which has issues also.
Those look like water issues to me and I would bet a printer I can print that clean on stock settings. Stock settings is all I’ve ever used but I know for a fact my filament is dry.
Things that matter are how you store, ambient humidity, and how you dry.
IMO that filament still looks wet. Im not sayin its the full problem but its a problem. Could be running too hot or a retraction issue, but I stoppped using mattes so I dont have a good eye for them anymore.
The filament has been dried overnight in a Sunlu drier removed and immediately placed in the ams which has new desiccant in it.
I’ve even used the ams drier facility.
The plate has been cleaned multiple times in extremely hot water with dish soap‘Fairy’ uk brand scrubbed and dried with a non shedding medical grade cloth.
I’ve even used different reels of dried filament.
I don’t know if it will make any difference but I’m going to try 2 new hotends and new textured plate.
Very grateful for all suggestions.
You don’t say if you printed with it or what the results were.
And at least with my sunlu, I get the best results by propping the door open about an inch at the start of the dry and then closing it once the humidity has peaked and starts dropping again in the drying chamber and leaving it closed for the rest of the dry. I purge with dry air in the 2nd half. That’s just a disclosure. I found my Sunlu S2 only dries marginally without it because I have high ambient humidity. You won’t be set up like that but the open door/close door trick really helps.
What is your ambient humidity and what is the humidity in the dryer when you took the filament off?
You can test your filament directly for water by putting a spool in a ziplock bag with a hygrometer and sealing it. In 30-45 minutes or maybe sooner (when the number stops changing) the humidity number tells you about the moisture content. With PLA I don’t print it if the number is over 25% RH.
Is your AMS one of the new ones that dries? If it is, the desiccant you add must be kept dry. If you let it pick up too much water, the desiccant will actually reduce the effectiveness of the drying action.
If it’s the old style AMS that doesn’t dry, new desiccant in the AMS is a good start but will take a while to further dry the filament. At room temperature the drying process happens but it’s slow.
If you’ve been changing settings on the H2 it’s really hard to say if those are or aren’t causing issues.
The H2 is a different animal with its own set of considerations. Maybe something else is going on?
Those are too close to values I use though there are differences and the AMS number seems a bit high to me. I have no experience with the drying AMS units to say much there. Mine are AMS (I) units.
At any rate I don’t know there’s anything else I can add. Apologies.
Is there anyway of telling the difference if not PLA. I’ve tried multiple retraction settings. I’m currently waiting for new hotends to arrive and a new textured build plate.
I dont think its a wet filament issue though. Probably pa or seam settings. If this is completely using the pla preset, possibly hardware issue. Trying any other pla will tell you if its machine/settings or filament
Is this the first time you’ve used elagoo? Or has it worked fine in the past? The reason I’m asking is because I bought some a while ago and had issues too. Build would come off plate, first layer would be good but then dragged all over the place. I stopped and went back to bambulab and it was fine again. Problem is I can’t say it was definitely the filament, like you I did everything to find a solution, so too many variables to give a definitive answer
Again thanks for all responses I have used ELEGOO previously without issue changed to overture just for price started to have issues with that then returned to ELEGOO issues continued.
I’m still having constant issues with the left nozzle only and to me it seems that the left nozzle is scraping across the print. Over the last week 2 brand new bambu 0.4 hotends installed and a new textured bambu build plate. The printer has been calibrated multiple times as well as the use of the vision encoder. I’ve taken the print unit apart cleaned and oiled parts that require it. The printer is regularly maintained so I’ve no idea what to try next. A H2D was a big investment for me and I’ve enjoyed using it but I could gladly smash it up with frustration, if it wasn’t for the pure mess resin printing makes I’d gladly go back to my resin printer.
Just for kicks, buy a roll of Bambu PLA and try that.
Just because you have had success with a particular brand does not mean you did not get a bad batch. There is no reason to believe that filament will always be consistent every time you buy it.
I’ve already tried a brand new role of bambu pla dried it in my AMS and no better on the left nozzle but works ok but not perfect on the right nozzle. I really am clutching at straws now I’m not sure there’s any setting, cleaning or filament I haven’t tried. I’m definitely not a tech wiz but I try to research and learn and respect the people who share knowledge but I’ve come to a dead stop and my hobby is close to being parked on a shelf.
