I need help with my AMS

I have had a p1s combo for 1 month. The first few weeks seemed fine with the printing, but soon I encountered some problems. The first few were just lubricating my printer and all that, but then I got some problems with my AMS.

I was printing a fidget one day, and the print was good, no errors or print quality issues. The next day, however, is when the problems started. The filament would either be stuck and I couldn’t pull it out of the AMS, or the gears weren’t pulling the filament. The problem was in the AMS internal hub unit or the motor next to it. There was no debris inside the internal hub, no broken parts, nothing.

I then contacted the customer support and they sent me a new motor. Still, it didn’t work. I then got a new internal hub unit from them, and it worked.. ..for a while at least. I heard some strange noises when the filament was reeled in before a print, but it still worked. I opened up the internal hub and blew away little scraps of filament. None of it got stuck in any gears or parts. I put the internal piece back together and loosened and tightened the 4 screws on the back and the filament went through all 4 slots fine. I put it back together and then it got worse. When it reeled the filament in, the wheels that rotate the spool were going the opposite direction of the AMS slot, causing the spool to get stuck and not move. I rotate the spool and it loosens up, and the filament is loaded up a little bit more. There were grinding sounds and the filament spool jumped up and made more grinding sounds. I don’t know what to do now, and I might have to buy a new AMS. I need help with it. Also, in the factory, how many times are the 4 screws rotated on the internal hub unit? I think I might have messed it up.

Perhaps some more information to narrow down the error:

  • You have AMS and not AMS Pro, right?
  • What kind of filament do you use? Not all filaments are suitable for the AMS.
  • Do you use the original plastic spools from Bambu or cardboard spools?
  • Has your filament become moist? Is it brittle? When you bend it with your hand, does it break or simply bend back and forth as it should?
  • Check the tubes to make sure they are secure and not at a steep angle or crumpled

Now we need to find out why dust and little scraps are occurring, because that’s not normal. A little tiny bit is fine, but from your description, it doesn’t seem to be normal. The question is why your filament grinding and AMS keep getting damaged. Whether it’s due to the AMS or external factors such as faulty filament, poor connection of tubes, or even your printer.

I have an AMS gen 1

I use only pla and I only used 2 cardboard spools, pretty sure that cardboard has nothing to do with the internal parts,could be wrong.

I always use dry filament, I dry it in the printer for 12 hours

PTFE tubes have a smooth route

It’s not the printer, Im sure, because it starts grinding before it reaches the tool head.(I have a video, but I don’t know how to upload one.)

To put it another way, it’s not ideal. The cardboard spools can be too light for the AMS, particularly when they’re almost empty and start bouncing around. The abrasion is also different, which can cause cardboard debris to form. What could at least explain this problem:

See if it makes sense to weigh down the spools or switch to plastic in the long run. It’s not a must, but keep it in mind.


So, you’re not using the original Bambu filament. That isn’t essential, of course, but are you sure that the filament and spool are AMS-compatible? Unfortunately, you still haven’t mentioned what you’re actually using. If it’s a good filament, no problem, but if it’s a cheap filament that doesn’t meet tolerances and has really bad cardboard spools, then yes!


Many people use YouTube, then set it to private and share the link. Google or Microsoft Cloud also work, and you can share the link.


In summary, it is possible that your cardboard spool is the problem, but it is also possible that it is not. More information is needed to determine this, however. At the very least, it does not help to improve the situation. That’s probably where your debris comes from.

The jumping spools were any one I used. Even a Bambu spool. I mostly I Use Sunlu and Bambu PLA, but i have used inland filament spools only 3 times.

Also, the debris I see are orange pla scraps from a Bambu filament that is grinded.

On the one hand, you say it affects every spool; on the other, you say it’s mainly orange filament fragments. That’s contradictory. Perhaps we should ask the question in a much more fundamental way…

Why are you asking this question? Do you suspect you’ve done something wrong? Did you tighten the screws too much? Has something bent? What do you think you’ve messed up?

In short, did you damage something during the repair? Could it simply be that you tightened the screws forcefully, causing everything to grind?


The more information you provide, the easier it will be for people to help you. As I said, photos would be ideal, of course. You also wanted to upload a video. I don’t think we can make any progress here until you provide some information. This is a complex case, and guessing won’t help. Remember, we are not standing in front of the printer. :grin: :+1:
