It would be great if I could wrap a texture around a 3D model … similar to this: Transform Your Prints In Seconds With Easy 3D Texture
Depending on how you mean ‘wrap’, you can achieve such an effect right now with little to no effort.
The concept can be achieved by adding a model designed to be the texture as a modifier to the main model and then setting changes to the modifier like a fuzzy effect or changes to surface patterns.
Where the two elements interact, these will form the effect.
This has been best explained and includes a real world example model as below.
If you are using Fusion to design with, late last summer Autodesk added textures to what it can do. You pick what texture you want and apply it. You have lots of control in how it does it too.
Seams in textures are from using a small texture that’s unable to cover the entire area you want textured at the scale you’re using the texture if I’m understanding your question.
There are sites like pexels(dot)com that have lots of textures that may be large enough to texture large areas without seams.
This was almost the size of an X1C print bed but the wood texturing was seamless while being at a realistic scale.
Hmmm, I’m not sure how I would use this suggestion. I have a “ball” shaped 3D model. I want to add a “feather” texture over the surface so that the ball looks like it is covered in feathers. How would I do this with a modifier?
That is one of the most complicated pairings of shape and texture you could have provided.
This is a CAD design question you should ask Google or other search engine, something like “how can I add a feather texture to a sphere in ****”, where *** should be changed to the name of your chosen CAD package.
You could apply the texture in Ideamaker and export the STL, print with Bambu Studio.
I was wondering if that would be possible. I wasn’t sure if Ideamaker is free and if it would bake the texture into the stl file for export. Worth a try I guess.
