I have a fairly new H2S printer and am noticing some strange noise while the printer is in idle. My guess is that the source are the motors but I am not sure. The noise is only present when in idle and after the stepper motors were engaged. If I restart the printer it is complete silent. After moving any motor or conducting the homing process the noise starts to appear. Does anybody know how to fix this or what exactly the source could be?
It’s really annoying especially with a new device with only 10 hours of printing.
This noise started occurring after only 19 hours of printer usage.
The symptoms are as follows:
The noise occurs only when the printer is in standby mode after step motor moved (idle).
It starts immediately after the printer completes the homing process and the motor stops moving.
The sound is a continuous, high-pitched buzzing or humming, likely coming from the stepper motor.
The noise stops completely as soon as the motor starts moving (e.g., during printing or any movement command).
The noise also stops when the motor current is released, allowing the print head to be moved freely by hand.
If I restart the printer, the sound goes away(motor current is released), but it reappears after the next motor movement or homing sequence.
This issue appears to be related to the motor’s holding current when it is idle.
I have submitted a support ticket to Bambu Lab regarding this and am awaiting a response. But since it’s a hardware issue, it’s likely that it will need to be replaced.
Hi what you describe is exactly what my printer also does. I had already contacted the support, but they only meant that it might disappear over time. It should not be anything negative but only disturbing. Not necessarily what I had hoped for.
Same noise on my 1-month old H2D. I’ve been working with Support and they sent a new MC Board Fan after a few weeks of back and forth, but upon disassembly I found it’s not coming from the fan afterall; sounds like its coming from behind the MC board itself.
Seemed to reduce after a running a ‘Motor Noise Calibration’ but still certainly there and just as noticeable as before in some head positions. I am going to poke around more before going back to Support. I’m hopeful it will reduce over time, it’s not bad enough on mine to haul it back for a replacement.

Hello, after investigation, we have confirmed that the issue originates from the motor. When the motor is stationary, a current is injected to maintain its locked position, which can produce this sound. We are currently optimizing the firmware to address this phenomenon. It seems that the issue will be improved in the next firmware update. I’m glad it’s not a hardware issue
