I am going to drop the brand from my shop. if i cant get RFID tagged rolls for the workflow to save on time and convenience the brand rapidly loses its value over other printers. this is the second month in a row Ive waited for supply drops on the store only to wake up at 1am to see the date moved up 3 days or the stock be gone before i can check out. Someone is botting their purchases and its really hurting the brand. I need ABS and ASA-CF in various colors and have yet to get a resupply, now its coming down to the wire and I will have to alter all my profiles on 50 different products to service an offbrand which will behave differently i am sure. My h2d and x1c are going to starve please someone at bambu do something.
Do you have a dealer rep? If so, you should be talking to them.
Or they are doing the same switcharoo they did with the PETG-HF, they are preparing a new plasic mix and want to unload all the old stock before.
I read somewhere else (but can’t verify) that Bambu is bringing some of their filament production in house, so letting the current ABS supply dwindle and replacing it with a new line may be what’s happening here, similar to PETG-HF going away and PETG Basic replacing it.
That said, I truly can’t understand why people even bother with ABS anymore given all the shortcomings of the material. I can’t see an “ABS 2.0” being released in this day and age. ASA seems to be a far better alternative all around, but that’s just my opinion…
Scalping? I am just imagining someone in an unmarked van in a back alley trying to convince people to buy filament from them.
I don’t really know how anyone manages to get a reliable source of filament. I swear that all of the brands I like to buy don’t have stock when I go to buy something.
“scalping”? is there a lucrative resale market? are you paying extra to get it from people who stockpiled it?
I’m not sure what part of the globe you’re located but my personal experience in North America is that Bambu’s ABS/ASA supply often seems to be the least problematic for supply. I’ve really only ever seen it out of stock at the end of a month long sale. At the start of this current sale I bought pallets of ABS/ABS-GF for the printers at work.
When I was trying to re-stock PETG-HF I found eBay sellers with the more obscure colors at higher (sometimes double) price with exorbitant shipping. So scalping is definitely a thing if anything is in short supply.
ASA-CF is even more problematic to get ahold of than ABS, I have been using ABS like pla where good enough for government work is ok and ASA-CF for strength and finish on higher end jobs. ABS comes in more colors too so its a handy substitute when a client wants a personalized product. either way I am out of ABS and about to use my last roll of ASA-CF. I need to drop 4 digits on filament at this point.
I am about to order from scalpers on ebay yes and this alone is enraging to me because i have to pay extra for overnight air too.
No, how do i contact one? please i am begging at this point.
I find it difficult to believe that ABS filament scalpers are actually a thing.
probably wont let me link it so i wont bother. ASA-CF is 35$ a roll normally on the store and on ebay its 80$ for a bbl branded spool.
Polymaker ASA and ABS are widely available in Europe.
I used the ASA a lot, and the print quality is fine. I do prefer the BL one but, I am not gonna give one cent to a scalper.
We should all boycott them.
For what it’s worth, I recently tried Polymer’s ASA-CF and it was great to work with. I used the Generic ASA preset and the standard textured PEI plate; had no issues with corner lift, adhesion, or warping. Maybe give theirs a try?
does their spool run ok in the AMS-HT tho? Usually thats a major point of contention as some brands use cheap weak spools that warp when heated without supporting the center of the spool.
I just looked on one of my fav sites https://bbltracker.com/
ABS
Asia: no out of stock and so so quantities
AU: lots available
CA: hit or miss on some colours
EU: You can get any colour as long as it’s orange
JP/KR: Only a few colours available
UK: Most colours available
US: Most colours available
I print almost exclusively in ABS. There has been some shortages in my market. I just make it a point to try to keep 10 rolls in stock of each colour to deal with the the time to time shortages.
It should. They use a cardboard spool with treated edges to keep it from shedding wood fibers. I had some mild anxiety about that spool but it didn’t hurt anything.
I say “should” because I don’t have an AMS-HT. I do have an AMS2 but didn’t want to feed it through the multiple turns of tubing. It’s brittle in filament form. So I just ran it directly hanging off a spool holder next to the printer. Worked fine.
When it is available from Bambu, I usually buy more than I need. A few times when Bambu ASA wasn’t available, I bought Flashforge ASA and it has performed very well. Excellent print quality.
asa-cf hjasnt been in stock in months, i buy random rolls on amazon, aliexpress and whereever I can.
even other stores in the EU are having trouble sourcing asa-cf. I have an order in backlog for over a month ad 3djake. They keep pushing back. Its very weird.
