I dont want to keep having to change smoothing levels to zero and saving… on every import. Also I don’t use PLA nor have it loaded but it keeps trying to match to PLA…Then it tries to mix colors…I just want some default check boxes. default to zero smoothing and default to loaded materials. I am not going to swap out colors…I want to use the 4 I have loaded. Feels like the program is written with AI and not a human in some areas. It is so close to being amazing! Just let us pick some defaults and less trying to guess what we want with “AI”.
It’s really damn hard to understand what you’re trying to say. If I’m getting this right, you’re looking for this:
- Create a project with your default settings, and save it - for example, as default.3mf. You can use that over and over again.
- Then select “Import” and just choose “Import geometry only”
Alternative: You can also create your own profile with your settings and refer back to it whenever you want:
If that’s not what you meant, maybe you should post a few screenshots and explain exactly what you had in mind.
It’s actually programmed by humans, and you can see for yourself. By the way, if you have any requests, you can post them there, too. ![]()
This window that pops up. I suppose it’s hard to understand if you get something different but this is what I get. I have to slide smooth level to zero…hit apply then fix the materials that keeps trying to add PLA matches
If I click the filament area to fix where to print it sometimes tries to mix colors to get the color I want instead of just matching to the red and gray petg I have loaded. Its just so close to being great that its super annoying.
Also if not done in the right order it wipes out what I picked for filament. If I could make it so that color #a80028 picks PETG red…and #959595 picks PETG gray…man it would be fantastic.
I’ve actually never seen those screens. Are you sure you’re using Bambu Studio? Maybe that’s in Bambu Suite (I’ve never used it)?
What software is that? Is that fusion or something?
I don’t know how far the options go now but there’s a new feature on MakerWorld when you view the 3D render of a model. You’ve always been able to swap colors but now if you pick different colors in the preview, MakerWorld will reconfigure the 3mf with those new colors instead of what it was uploaded with.
I don’t know if you can change filament types or if it’s just colors. Haven’t tried it other than doing some previews and seeing it was available.
If it lets you change material it at least gets you partway there.
It’s great that you provided all that information, but I’ll have to pass on this one. Maybe someone else knows the answer. I only update my software when I have to, for exactly that reason. It just messes up my workflow.
Wierd. Must be a mac/windows difference or something. I do not get that screen when I open an stl or 3mf file. [win11, and linux flatpak/KDE]
Should I rollback? I was used to the older way even though it had some issues too.
Which file type do you import? I see a similar screen when I use some of the calibration features taken over from Orca slicer. The typical file types you would use are STEP and STL, they have a different import screen. Maybe you import GCODE?
Obj but this screen is something new. I never used to get that until I updated the software.
Never used OBJ files so far. I just read about it that it can contain texture information. I think in the last update, BS was enhanced to allow for textures being interpreted as coloring information. That might have made it necessary to enhance the import dialogue as you found out.
What happens if you simple press the button “skip matching”?
Would a different file format be an option for you?
When there are true RGB colors attached to faces in the model that you are importing, it tries to map them into mixed filament colors. It can create up to 32 colors if needed.
I seen this the first time in the latest beta, so I guess it’s new with this version.
I have not found a way yet to store your requested preset.
Downgraded to 2.7.1.62… 2.8 does not slice right either sometimes. I can’t wait for the day that the software works as great as the machine…
Things that dont work right…
Constantly needing to sync the AMS…Its not changing that much. And when I do sync it sometimes gets the materials wrong. Works better not that I disconnected the external material thing for the second head.
Allow for manual colors to material matches. So say I match the imported red color to the material red… let me set that as the default for that color. Maybe someday I will change to a different material but I can change it then.
In 2.8 get rid of the smoothing thing on import or allow it to be set to a level and that is the default…
In 2.8 the number of colors in the model is not being detected right. A 4 color model has 3 colors…worked better in 2.7.
