Importing Obj files creates a duplicate filament

Maybe its just me using it wrong, But I have an engineering degree and have done enough web dev to be comfortable with a popup UI.

I do not have an AMS, and I use the same filament most of the time. So its usually configured in Studio already when I start the project.

Every time I import an Obj file, it brings up this colouring dialog:

Great, Stellar, Totally normal.

From there, I just hit “Reset”:

And “Color Match”::

Sweet. As I would hope, the tool uses the existing colour. In this case “1”.

BUT, when I hit “OK”, It creates a duplicate filament!

Somebody please help. This feels like a bug, but as a non-AMS user, the color system is unnecessarily complex and just gets in the way. This feels like it should be easier, especially when I only have 1 filament configured and the part is solid 1 color.

Info:

  • Parts generated by Autodesk Inventor with export to .obj file
  • Default colour and material in Inventor (“Generic”)
  • Custom filament profile in Studio
  • Studio Version: 2.0.1.50

Yeah. OBJ files include color information. The import function can’t guess the intent behind the colors, so it gives you the option of assigning them how you want when you do the import.

What you’ve done, I think, is told it you want to treat this object’s color as a separate color. Even though it’s the same as the previous object you loaded. I don’t remember exactly, but I think if you click this (the thing with the “2” in it):

there’ll be a little window that pops up and you can choose filament 1 there, and the slicer then knows you’re talking about the same filament 1 as the project already has loaded…

But if you look above in the image in my post, it shows the object is matched to filament 1 after I click “Color Match”. So, from my understanding, it SHOULD use the existing #1 filament for that part. Not a duplicate!

Yes, I have exactly the same problem. Someone please post a solution.
Regardless of how the filament is assigned and even if I pick filaments that are already known and in the project, new duplicate filaments get added. This is annoying, and I echo OP’s sentiment, that it looks like a bug are we just don’t understand how to use it.
