Inconsistent PLA Basic vs PLA Tough+ matching between Studio and printer

I’m seeing a strange behavior with filament matching and would like your help to understand it.

Setup:

  • White PLA Basic loaded in one slot
  • White PLA Tough+ loaded in my AMS HT

If I slice a model in Bambu Lab Studio using PLA Tough+ and then start the print directly from Studio, the system wants to use the white PLA Basic instead of the PLA Tough+ the project was sliced with.

However, if I send the job to the printer first and then start the print from the printer’s screen, it correctly selects the white PLA Tough+ without any issues.

Why is there a difference in behavior between starting the job from Studio and starting it from the printer? It makes it hard to trust material matching when PLA Basic and PLA Tough+ are loaded at the same time.

It has long occurred to me that Bambu Studio primarily tries to best match colors, regardless of PLA type. The first filament it comes to that closely matches the desired color gets picked.

I rarely print PLA, but I do use PLA Basic as support. When I needed some parts for my RC models in PLA Tough+, I noticed this issue. I will check the issues on GitHub to see whether it has already been reported; if not, I will create a new one. It is strange that the firmware can detect this correctly while Bambu Lab Studio cannot.
