Inconsistent syncing of filaments

I have an A1 with AMS Lite and use Bambu Studio. I’m using BambuLab filaments and specifically PLA Matte in this instance.

I have an issue with changing filaments in Bambu studio by right clicking on the model and choosing ‘Change Filament’. With some models the colour doesn’t change and the only way I can “force” the change is in the print screen before sending it to the printer.

In this example when I synced the filaments they show up as expected on the AMS lite. initially all of the models where orange and I wanted them in tan. When I right clicked and change filament I got the result shown.

This issue doesn’t happen all the time so I’m thinking it’s something to do with the models each of which was separately downloaded from Makerworld, with the exception of the turtle which I modelled in Fusion 360. The changes I made to the downloaded models included infilling some of the voronal style models, adding the knob and cutouts for magnets. (note that the black knob on the emu has always remained black since I added it while all of the other knobs initially “behaved” as expected and allowed me to choose the filament I wanted)

It’s always a bit complicated to get these to match.

  • Firstly, there are the colours specified by the model designer, i.e. in the project.
  • Then there are the colours that are actually assigned in AMS.

Getting these to match can be difficult for some models.


How do you synchronize your filament: using overwriting or mapping?


“Overwriting” mercilessly overwrites the color information with what you actually loaded into the AMS. This can be useful if you’re not at all interested in the colors nor filament chosen by the designer.

“Mapping” on the other hand, gives you more flexibility to choose your own colors. While the AMS is used as a reference, the range of options is much wider - or rather, it actually gives you a choice:

To do this, click on the small filament spool, and you can select the color.

When mapping, you can also specify at least these two options:


I almost always use “overwriting” because I’m often not interested in the colors of the original model at all. In your case, “mapping” would be a better option: specifically replacing the designer’s colors with colors that are actually in the AMS.

Of course, you should have already inserted the corresponding colors into the AMS by then. You can do without it, but then things get complicated…

Is that how you do it? If you do it as described, you don’t really need to go through the “Change Filament” process - actually, there are always exceptions.


However, to get that out of the way: There are always some models that cause problems, for whatever reason.
