Information on where to start with a new filament

Normally I print with Bambu filament or generic PLA / PETG.
I was gifted 1kg of a filament that I haven’t used before, what is the best way to approach this?
I would like to print it onto a PEO PET Build Plate.

Should I calibrate the filament inside of studio, or start with a generic profile?
Do I calibrate on the PEO PET build plate?
A bit of general guidance would be helpful. TIA

Filament

Plate

Generally, if it’s PLA, start with the Bambu PLA settings and see if it works.
So far I’ve had luck with every PLA I’ve tried but one (which seems sorta “greasy” and wouldn’t stick to anything but the textured plate).
If the new filament doesn’t print well, THEN try calibration, or a different build plate if it doesn’t stick well.

Thanks for that, it is printing now with a Bambu setting.
We will see…

It’s better to start with the Generic PLA settings, not the Bambu PLA settings.

First layer - slowed down, a lot.

The final print:
The was a small amount of stringing and clearly I need to improve the first layer.

Correct, I re-ran the job with generic settings and it looked better. I do have a concern about the filament, it contains “flakes/sparkles” so it may be more abrasive, time to get out the hardened hot end.

Because bambu deliveries seem to be an issue in Canada I also tested some Elegoo PLA +

Started with the Generic setting, ran a temperature tower and got the following result.
If anyone wants to comment on this please, do.
My question, is there anything here that looks like I need to work on it further?
