Initial Inspection Upon Delivery

Hey guys I just wanted to start a sort of collection thread of all the things that should be checked during unboxing and initial inspection of the H2D. My H2D arrives today (FedEx, ugh) and reading over all these threads has me TERRIFIED. I was just hoping to gather the experience of those who dealt with the initial issues and what you checked. I will be doing a full video when i unbox it and taking loads of pictures. As a understand it theres a nozzle wiper to check if its seated properly. Some screws in the head for the nozzles to see if they are tightened down. Z rod could be unseated and bent…stuff like that. I want to make sure no stone is unturned when I inspect this bad boy so I can hop on refund/exchange is necessary right away. I’m in hope for the best, but plan for the worst mode lol.

There’s these little black clip things that are annoying to get off. There’s 4 of them on the box keeping the outer part secured in place.

Despite there being slots for 4, and I think there’s mention of removing all 4, but both my printers only had 3 in place. I don’t know what that matters. Just a fyi :man_shrugging: don’t be shocked if there isn’t 4, and it’s okay.

I don’t know if this is actually mentioned anywhere, and I just wasn’t paying attention. Part of the clip that holds the build platform in place on the back, there’s storage for the 4 screws that were used for securing the build platform. It’s good to take note, store the screws, and put this somewhere safe.

I tend to throw away the packaging, but this seemed worth holding onto for any future eventualities.

I just have minor things because out of box the units seemed fine, so didn’t do a deeper dive. My first unit just had the broken door handle, which was a fairly obvious thing to notice. Otherwise though, I will do a general visual pat down. Look for any dents, anything where panels might not be sitting right, where like seam gaps between panels might vary (which could be an indication of a bent frame underneath, perhaps?).

Bends or dents from shipping damage would be a red flag. Aside from that, be sure to run all of the calibrations and see whether they pick up any problems. My camera had a bent pin on the ribbon cable that the camera calibration was able to detect (not directly, but as a calibration failure). Not a big deal: Bambu sent me a replacement camera in about a week.

Other than that, run a bunch of calibration test prints meant to detect problems and see if you find any. Be sure to run a “perfect first layer test” as a check on bed flatness. That’s good advice for any new printer, not just this one. When it comes to test prints, I recommend you start with that one.

I agree it would be nice if there were a full test suite that was peer reviewed and vetted to fully detect any conceivable problem. Maybe you can take the lead on compiling one? You’ve got two weeks. How hard can it be? You could solicit suggestions as to everyone’s favorites.

So for what it’s worth, I live in a “remote area” and had mine delivered by UPS. It definitely had some rough handling along the way. The back corner of the machine itself was dinged a little on the back corner.

When I printed the included benchy for the first time right out of the box, and saw the printer shaking back and forth I was a little concerned. But several calibration cycles later, the printer is printing FLAWLESSLY.

I had initially considered trying to do a return when I saw the damaged shipping box, but due to my location, I realized the chance of getting a second, even more damaged unit was not insignificant so I decided to give it a shot. I’m glad I did and it now is a total workhorse of a printer and hasn’t given me any trouble whatsoever.

Just give it a good look over. My box came quite messed up (damp bottom and corner, one side smashed in from either another box or the wall or a container, bunch of gashes) but lucked out and had no (visible) damage to the printer. Has been printing fine for me.

Thanks for the tips guys. My box has arrived. My roommate was actually home and offered the Fedex guy our dolly to put it on from his truck (i guess he didnt have one?) but he brought it in to my front door. I’m headed home from work in about an hour and ill be documenting the unboxing. Good notes all around for visual inspection of delivery, but what about going in to the machine. I’ve noticed in my creeping threads, theres a reoccurring theme of some particular screws not tightened down (which of those should i check) and a catastrophic failure of the nozzle wiper bracket not seated proper (popped out instead of popped in) and causing nozzle collision. These are the types of things i was also hoping to gather in this thread also. A one stop shop of self quality control to be sure if you get a unbroken machine, it doesn’t break on initial calibration/print too lol!

I was terrified too! But everything turned out great!

Remember to check the screws under the build plate that they are not sticking up.

My H2D arrived well and printed the most beautiful benchy, wall brackets, etc. It surprised me printing my helicopter body even better than my highly dependable P1S.

The only thing wrong with my H2D was the build plate was strangely nozzle scraped on both sides of the plate. Support sent me a new one. But my printer prints great so no worries.

Are there recommended torque settings for the various screws and bolts? If you’re going to the bother of checking them, you may as well do it right.

Its a cr@p shoot, just pray the shipping company took care of your printer. Unbox it properly, run calibrations and hope for the best. Not much else you can do, I bet you’ll be fine. Good luck!

It’s officially recommended that you video the entire unboxing with something like a gopro, or equivalent on the same day you receive it. Why? Good question. If there’s damage, I’m guessing they want proof that it was shipping damage and not customer inflicted damage.

Well i unboxed it and recorded the entire process with my Galaxy S23 taken it off the stand in between steps to do a swap around and inside. So far i’ve seen no damage. I’ve been stacking the empty box and piece in reverse so its its an easy reassemble if it would need to go back. Right now im trying to find a spot for it then i should be ready for calibration and test print.

Calibration completed with out issue, headed to bed though so I wont be able to run tests till tomorrow
