Is glue really necessary

Lots of opinions and conflicting statements. If we are all using the same printer then the only differences are ambient temps. plate temps and most importantly- which filament one is using. That is the one factor no one is talking about. I mean brand and style, not simply category. Every filament has its own recipe even within the same line of plastic. I have wildly different experiences between different brands of PETG specifically.

You forget one big difference. how clean is your build plate.
A clean or dirty build plate can make a huge difference.

I (almost) never use glue (stick or 3dlac). When I have to use it, it is because of adheasian problems or as release agent.

I never thought of using the freezer to remove TPU. I might have to try this the next time I print with TPU.

Glue is NOT needed on the Textured plate at all. On the Cool and engineering plate, yes, especially the cool plate. I tried printing without the glue on the cool plate and i could barely get the print off and when i finally did, it was completely discolored on the bottom. Downside to the glue, the bottom of the print has glue spots which cannot be washed off. I just dont get it.

Thats … odd. if i do get any glue residue, (bambu glue stick, or the Purple elmers is my backup) - it does juts wash off. Have you tried a bit of low heat, like hot air gun or hair dryer?

Does it look like white gluie residue or darker. possibly pulled up some plate?

this was actually interesting, i never thought about using water and a cloth to get a more even coat

Absolutely not, your new best friend is dish detergent and warm water baths periodically, or when adhesion is a problem. I have had my X1C for about 10 months and I have only used glue once, and only on a Cool plate. Detergent and water has been doing it for me quite nicely since day one. I can’t even imaging putting glue on a textured PEI plate. Give it a try…

Makes sense. I guess that’s why my new one came with some PLA Extra sheets for the build plate.
