I just installed a Micro Swiss Flowtech hotend and everything was great for tests etc then yesterday I lose a night of printing and wake up to the head moving around but no filament coming out. This led to a pretty big clog in the hotend (I thought it was extruder). So after pulling it apart I try to do a print and it fails on the color switch. Same behavior. Printer is moving like it is printing but nothing is coming out. This time though I am able to manually extrude it with a hotter nozzle.
Ok so now I am at a loss and am about to give up and rebuild it all when it starts to work again. Ever since I replaced the extruder (panda and no not necessary but the blue looks cool and maybe will help heat creep) I haven’t had the same issue. Can the AMS cause the nozzle to get so clogged by not feeding filament or getting it just far enough where the printer thinks its coming out but it isn’t? The roll I was on was about out and it’s the only thing I can think of. Any other ideas or solutions would be appreciated and how to avoid such an issue again (if possible) It was pretty nerve wracking to have to do all of that being relatively new.
Also how strong are these components? I had to pull pretty hard to get the filament out and while I made sure to pull on a solid point I still don’t have a great idea of how strong these components are. Thanks!
You used a 3rd party hot end, and had problems. You swapped to a different 3rd party hot end and the problem went away. What could possibly make you suspect the AMS as the source of this problem?
No, the AMS cannot do the things you’re suggesting.
Helpful next time do a solid a favor and just move right along.
And for reference, I put a weight in the spool and it worked just fine so that leads me to believe that the filament wasnt reaching it properly.
I tried this based on information. I got talking to a local guy at Micro Center.
The hot end is printing way faster and much much better quality than the stock one so I think I’ll just keep that in there appreciate the thought though.
In case anybody comes across this thread, it seems that my issue was the same that many have had with the AMS and not having enough weight on there. After talking to a guy at Micro Center He actually demonstrated exactly what was happening. He filled the filament all the way in and then basically held it on the AMS side, so the extruder thought it was extruding because the sensor was satisfied however, the filament was not reaching or pushing through the nozzle, which is what caused the clog.
Same spool with not very much on it and a printed weight off of maker world and it printed just fine. Everything has been smooth sailing ever since.
