Is there a way to add a negative search word?

I get that “fidget” and “articulated” and a few other descriptive words are popular.

I don’t get it, it seems like a huge waste of plastic to me ..but I do accept that many of you do like them.

But they’re kind of making the search tool really tedious for me

Can MakerWorld add a filter to hide some chosen words in Search results?

Apologies if this is in the wrong place

In the Bambu Handy app, you can go to settings->model preferences->blocked tags and then search for any tags you want to block.

Which doesn’t solve the issue when they don’t use that tag. But yes, it can help.

It also helps to choose a more specific search term: So, for example, not “toy” but “boardgame”. Actually, those kinds of fidget toys only show up if you choose a search term that’s too broad.

In addition, there are several categories that further narrow down the search results and thus exclude unwanted results: For example, fidget toys are almost always in the “toys” category. If you don’t search within that category, you won’t see most of them.

…and as CarbonForge already mentioned, it helps to block certain tags, but also to manage your preferences in your profile.

All of this makes the search function a very powerful tool. Even though it isn’t specifically designed to block certain content - since some designers simply don’t tag, and Bambu isn’t even to blame for that - the search function is still very well suited for finding specific things.

In short: Focus on defining what you want to see; use specific search terms, specific categories - that’s the most important thing.

Oh cool

Thanks everyone for the info.
My preferred method of searching is just from front page - I like to see a cross section of stuff as I browse but couldnt work out how to filter that search.

This will make for a much more enjoyable browse

Is it just me or do those filters not really work at all? I have added various “Users” to my blocklist, that mostly upload ■■■■ stuff (thats a discussion for itself..) and unprintable AI slop.. yet they still turn up on my start page as well as in quite a lot of my searches since they simply flood their “creations” with every available tag…

Why is the word ■■■■ in this board being removed while it is ok to upload NSDAP content to the page that is not even removed after noticing the staff? Really?

Because the community forum is not Makerworld?

Well.. one could expect similar levels of moderation.

Based on your name and your comment, I’m assuming you’re German: What you’re describing isn’t explicitly prohibited in many countries, but is simply unpopular. Reporting it to MakerWorld won’t do any good because German rules don’t apply globally.

Even in Germany, not everything is prohibited, but only very specific symbols. From the historical context, which I hardly need to explain here.

MakerWorld = China and, to some extent, global

While I can see your point I can also read the community guidelines and they have pretty explicit prohiibitions against hate speech, glorification of violence points in there.. and what could more glorifying violence than stuff that clearly depicts holocaust memorabilia from that period of german history. So even if that stuff is not illegal in china it clearly is violating the guidelines.. but thats not the topic in here.. i’d be happy if i could just ban these users from my search results or their creations by negative search words.

Well one would be wrong if they expect that.

Here are the guidelines the community forum moderators follow.

https://forum.bambulab.com/guidelines

Like I said, it depends, as always.

It’s a complex topic, and I don’t know what you’ve seen - and please don’t post it.

All I’m saying is, you have to keep the overall global picture in mind.

What some countries view as a serious offense and inappropriate, other countries view, for example, in a more relaxed manner. Example: MakerWorld allows NSFW content that is banned in some countries.

By the way, regarding what you’re describing - you really have to know the specific terms to find the content you described; you don’t just stumble across it by accident.

Sure. And i am happy that makerworld has a decent guideline on what is allowed on the page and what is not..

I totally wish it was. Trust me.. I have better things to do than to look for that stuff! But they turned up, especially during the Soccer world championship a lot on my front page due to the tags that arent that specific but using “chiffre” to make it sound legal. There are, for example, obvious differences between our german eagle crest and the one used by that certain time in our history.. yet as long as it is named and tagged as “german eagle” it turns up with a slightly altered ■■■■■■■■ or the iron cross to “denazificate”.. Also a lot of german flag models turned up that time, some with slogans widely used by the SS and so on..

To be honest.. I like Makerworld. It adressed mostly everything i disliked on other pages for a decade but given the moderation desinterest of such things and the increasing amount of (unprintable) AI slop (begging for boosts) it starts to ruin this website.

In a case like that, though, no negative keyword will actually help you either, because those are users who are exploiting the tagging system. Although we can’t really call it an exploit - let’s just say it’s a deep gray area.

The most effective thing to do is to block these users so that their content is no longer recommended to you.

Also keep in mind how the AI categorizes you: If you click on something - for example, to report it - the AI will still think, “You clicked on that, so you like it!” and suggest a lot more of the same to you. The more you engage with it - even if it’s just to report something - the more similar content will be suggested to you. The system probably thinks that’s exactly what you want to see.

To get around this, you should influence the search results yourself as much as possible and avoid clicking on “Recommended.”

That does not work. Trust me. I tried a lot doing that.

That is the same bs the Youtube algorithm does. At least they have way to remove viewed stuff from your recent history in order to reshape your “Recommended” stuff.

I dont complain all too much right now.. and i think this would take over the absolutely important discussion OP started.. but in a way.. yes.. negative Keywords could help at some things.. mostly they use words as “Reich” or “Military” or whatever together with German, Eagle, Crest, Bust or whatever.. though, at times, not - and that sure is some sort of exploitation.. and cant be self moderated away one way or another.

It actually works - I have no idea why it’s not working for you:

You can add negative tags, as well block designers:

However, that only works if the designers are honest enough to label / tag their stuff.

That’s the problem I’m trying to explain to you: As long as the words you don’t want to see aren’t in the title, description, or tags, you can’t block them. This isn’t a MakerWorld problem per se - it’s just that users are cheating the system.

What’s the point of blocking [insert words here] if it doesn’t appear at all in the title, description, or tags… I understand what you’re saying, really, but the problem is people cheating, not the search system.

Just as a side note: I did a targeted search for the phrase “German eagle”

…and thank goodness: Completely harmless - and, oddly enough, there are even more American eagles. No symbols that are prohibited from a German perspective. By the way: The german eagle itself is expressly not prohibited, which wouldn’t make any sense anyway.

What does that tell us? The AI probably thinks you want to see exactly the stuff you don’t want to see, because you’re constantly engaged with it. Maybe you even left a comment under those models? Just a guess?

Engaging means that this will be suggested to you more often.

Solution:

Instead sorting by relevance, which is based on your own preferences and what the AI thinks, switch to “Downloads,” for example.

looking at that screenshot i see three depictions of the NSDAP eagle only used during the third reich and just one that can be considered the german eagle

And yes, i totally understand you. And i think we have strayed off the main topic of the thread already.

hm… i think that the best solution for most of “all problems” is a better “category tree”… because this category tree is not even a tree… it is just something like a hand but only with six figers…??

that is no good grown tree or something like this… browsing the models is just a pain… everything is in every category… lets say there are one hundred subcategorys…? thats nothing!! if you think about all the products humans can come up with…

a few days ago a had the first look on the makerworld app… this app even not have subcategorys at all… it only has the main categorys…??

im from austria… and take a look at our own online used-market… ebay is a joke against it!

there are 4 main categorys…

  1. everything for used items
  2. real estate
  3. vehicles
  4. jobs

in most cases you dont have to typ in a single word for finding what youre looking for… you just brows the categorys and the rest works with filtering it… its one of the best category trees with filters i have ever seen…

but the best thing on it is that the people who want to upload something must choose the categorys till the end of it…

and that is where the magic happens…

  1. everyone has to put his item in the category who he thinks people will look for
  2. everyone sees only the items he is looking for

it is so easy… and a real win/win situation for everybody… it can be so simple…

this would be the greatest change for everybody on majerworld i believe…??

and instead of canceling/blocking certain words you should have a way to block certain categorys for browsing the market…?? this would be realy great for something like this here!!

here you can typ something into the searchbar and not even that works well… thats not good in my view…

hmm… everyone agree with me on this one at least..??

mmh…

jet boads jackpot??
