Is there any point in drying filaments more than it suggests you?

I hear people drying their filaments up to 24 hours. Is there any point in doing that especially with a fresh filament?

Drying time very much depends on the filament and the applied temp. Drying a high temp filament at 60°C for example can take ages. I left my PPS-CF in there for well over 72h…
Usually though, I have found the Bambu recommendations to be conservative and hence pretty good.

As for new filament, that has typically spent weeks on a sea voyage with the bags slowing, but not stopping water uptake. So new filament is usually quite moist.

Thank you. So for a new PLA Basic or PETG, PETG-HF, it says 8 hours but 12 would be better just to be safe?

It depends a bit on the temp your dryer actually achieves and how moist it keeps the chamber. In my experience, 8h is plenty for PLA but since PETG is more sensitive to moisture, I usually give it 8-10h.

There are a lot of tests in Youtube saying, the first hour is the most important time of drying. I also measure the weight and at least I can confirm, that I could not measure any difference later than two hours after start. However, I still dry my filaments for 6 hour as a middle way between recommendations and my experiences.
