Hi guys, I’m trying to print out parts that have a very thick layer height (Like 1.0mm and higher). I currently have a 0.8mm nozzle, and I have seen some posts printing 1.5 mm layers with the A1. I am trying to replicate that, and through Orca Slicer, I was able to change the layer height by changing the nozzle size, but it is not allowing me to slice because the width is either too small or too big (width was set to 1.2~1.5mm ish). Is there a way to override this, or are there other slicer programs that would be compatible with P2S?
Could it be that you’re referring to this? However, these users also use nozzle sizes larger than 0.8 mm - since that’s the limiting factor - as well as filament that’s suitable for this extreme extrusion.
I could be wrong, but as far as I know, the maximum possible layer height with a 0.8 nozzle is ~1.0 mm with significant compromises in quality. Although, according to the textbook, the maximum height is actually ~0.6 mm.
- Maximum layer height ≈ 75% of the nozzle diameter
So even if you want to push your printer to its absolute limit - if you want to go beyond 1.0 mm - you’ll need a larger nozzle.
For sizes bigger than nozzle diameter, The filament extrudes it’s bead like a balloon, inflating. If you hold the 0.8mm nozzle tip 1.5mm away and try to fill the void, its going to get wonky. Especially in the seams, I can imagine the “log” actually rolling over and escaping position
I think you can convince BambuStudio to allow higher layer heights. The limit is set in the machine settings. You can save your printer under a new name and modify the limits for layer height.
I could imagine that 1mm layer height is doable with a 0,8mm nozzle. In my opinion the limiting factor is not so much the size of the opening but the size of the flat surface around it. Maybe you can measure the diameter? That would be the maximum line width that should still work nice. I would expect 2x the nozzle size, e.g. 1.6mm on 0.8 nozzle.
With 1.6mm line width and 1mm layer height, I think you are fine.

You may need Utility Sized spools of Filament.
