Is this cheating?

To be fair he does have real images on his print profiles, the quality is dubious at best, the gnome door even has supports left on in profile pic

And another (6th) account:

the only reason i think people are going this way now is that what i can see is a new account can be prone to get more views as its new… meaby some users find it more rewarding ? Hard to tell… but imo users that put a lot of time should get more views compared to newer users wich just clone their accounts… its should be that overtime you get popular when you level up ! not just by creating a new account as everyone is doing, i believe there is a reason why they do this and makerworld should look into something that would make the account take time to become popular

I also have one, and I think they have copied my design or slightly remixed it.

Makeworld says that they don´t find violations.

He also copied my text:
IMPORTANT: Please check the dimensions in the drawing before printing to ensure the hook fits your door.
If you need a different thickness or width so it fits your door, feel free to contact me, and I’ll be happy to adjust the design for you.

What should I do about it ?

Copy/remix:

Well, it might happen a lot, that two or even more designers have the same idea and a door hook might be a very common need. I agree, that it looks copied (photos of engineering drawings, the basic design idea, the text you mentioned,…), however, I still can image, that NordicNugget made this without the knowledge of your model. I think you have already reported it, so let’s see how Makerworld would deal with it, but I think, there are enought users for both models.

Makerworld says that they don’t find any violations. On my second report, they asked me to send a report to copyright@makerworld.com.

I also hope he did not see my model before creating their own. But for me I would define it as remix.

it got rejected because its not a remix and not the same model… its pretty easy to look at what users make and just do your own version of it by just looking at an image. thats what i do most of the time when im looking for ideas. also i prefer to design my own as it has my personal licensing on it, just by reverse ingeneering you can make changes that will make the model look like yours and not somebody else. if you copy the whole model will every measure the same way as the other made it , it will then be a copy.

Yours released on 2024-11-23

This other one released on 2024-05-18

They both do the same thing, with your logic one could argue that you also remixed an existing design right?

There are a ton of these “over door hook” designs:

The model you claim remixed yours may look similar, but with a quick look it appears to have its own dimensions. Furthermore, I don’t believe you invented the design either, its existed for a while and there’s only so many ways to design something this simple. It’s not surprising that there are several similar designs.

Yeah you have right. We could argue without ending which one is original. I have talked already with him and we settled it out. But tnx anyway.

Yes it’s called Makerworld plus. I highly recommend it.

Oh boy, YouTube Shorts gonna have a wild day with that one

I’m refreshing this thread because I’ve just found out something interesting regarding reuploads of old models for contests:

Reuploads of old models for contest are supposedly against the rules…
BUT
Makerworld will not remove them from the contest.
Here is their answer from January 2024:

We appreciate your input. Currently, we are not prohibiting older models from entering our contests, but they will not be chosen as contest winners. Qjo is accurate in stating that our goal is to draw in skilled designers with their latest models to MakerWorld. Allowing older models to win would diminish the hard work of designers striving to create new designs for our contests. If you encounter any older models that have been awarded in future contests, please don’t hesitate to inform us. Thanks for your continued support.

(thread: Reuploads for contests)

I wish I knew about it earlier but I wasn’t here in January 2024. I’m posting this so others can find out (and they didn’t waste their time reporting).

It’s actually not “against the rules,” they’re just not eligible to win the contest. It is in fact stated under “Judging Criteria.”

Why enter a competition if you know in advance that you have no chance of winning? The answer is to gain more visibility and points - but I would call it not fair to others :woman_shrugging:

Some people enter unrelated contests in the hope the people visiting the contest will see their model and they get an unfair bump in visibility.

Definitely, but unfortunately it’s not against the rules.

It’s like if they started the 5k fun run together with the actual marathon.

If they want to keep that rule though, they should maybe flag them as “ineligible” based on their model id and related release date. Then put an automatic filter on the contest page that defaults to “eligible models” and unless people change the filter to “show all,” they won’t be visible.

…of course then you might as well have a pop up saying “you’re model is not eligible for this contest”. Doesn’t fix delete/reupload submissions though.

once again MW enables cheating and point manipulation… while established designers have their $40 card redemption “under review” protect the cheaters, punish the honest people…

I DMed them two days ago officially offering to remove my models and become a volunteer moderator. So far no response…

I agree, we need moderators and they should be active users of the community, makers who can distinguish stolen models and cheats easily.
