Im trying PETG basic for the first time and when i use the smooth plate it looks like its creating a lot of gaps but with the textured plate it looks a lot better, is this normal or should i tweak the settings or is it just the model at the end?
It looks like your filament can benefit from calibration. Iâd guess that flow rate is probably off.
However, although calibrating the filament and dialing in the right parameters will yield long term set-and-forget benefits, you can cheat on the print profile on each print.
In the slicer, try experimenting with line width. By making the line width smaller, the slicer will assume that the lines need to be closer together. Youâll have to experiment with you filament in order to find out what is optimal but Iâve used this with PETG and PC filaments to compensate for that âvoid-between-lines-lookâ on the first layer. This is particularly true if youâre printing on a smooth plate and want to get as near perfect surface as possible.
In my experience, the textured plate can hide mild flow rate calibration issues when compared to the smooth plate. In particular, the machine Gcode has a built in z-offset change for the textured plate specifically, which isnât found in print profiles or filament profiles.
As Olias says, you definitely will benefit from running a Flow Dynamics and Flow Rate calibration for the filament. Make sure youâve dried it well first.
There is also a setting on the âQualityâ tab where you can increase the flow rate for the first layer only. It is 1.0 by default (100% of flow ratio in the filament profile). You can increase it by 5% by changing that setting to 1.05.
so after a printing a different model this looks like the be a issue with the model itself
the other model went without issues
To me it looks like the modelâs spacing between colors isnt an even multiple of your wall width
If you use Arachne wall generator, it will fatten up and skinny up those lines to make them fit the space.
Alternatively you could mess around with the âFirst Layer Line Widthâ setting, reducing [or even increasing] till it finds a fulfilling multiple
