troubleshooting for nozzle cold pull maintenance
Pre-Step — Remove the Top Cover
Before anything else:
If you’re writing a guide for this, please mention that the top cover of the printer needs to be removed.
I did it, because… duh. But some people might be too afraid to break their €2,000 printer if it’s not clearly stated. They might try to follow the entire procedure with just the front door open — which is not ideal.
First — The Cold Pull Screen Trap
I ended up in the cold pull maintenance screen because of this error while trying to print.
The funny (and frustrating) thing is: once you’re on this screen, the printer is stuck. Not the menu — you can still navigate around — but you can’t do anything maintenance-related, like re-run the AMS setup or change filament, because the printer still thinks it’s printing.
Which is kind of idiotic, considering you’re being asked to manually purge filament. There really should be a button right there to cancel the print, especially since the plate moves close to the nozzle — potentially damaging parts if you’re not careful.
Also, it’s important to remove any printed object from the plate before starting, because clicking “Start” in the menu begins the whole process immediately — no warning.
Second — How Much Filament You Actually Need
You definitely should say how much filament is needed to purge the nozzle.
Short answer: about 38 cm.
and once its done you have that much left
If you’ve got a spool nearby, no problem — but if all your filament is loaded in the AMS, it’s a hassle to take it out just to grab a short piece. So it would be super helpful if the guide simply told users:
“Prepare at least 38 cm of filament before starting the purge.”
Because right now, there’s zero indication of how much you need.
