I have a relatively new P1S with AMS. I am having trouble with the AMS reading what spool I have in the AMS. I load the spool and it gets sucked in the AMS and then nothing happens. It doesn’t read the tag and change the filament type or color. I have to change it manually under the device tab. Am I doing something wrong? What good is it to buy Bambu filament if I have to change the settings manually. Any help on this matter would be appreciated.

Have you tried the spool in different locations inside the AMS? Did you purchase the spool from the Bambu Store?

Yes, the spools all come from the Bambu Store. I just changed all the spools out and only one got updated to Bambu Studio. It doesn’t matter which position they are in, in the AMS.
If I remember correctly, you have to allow enough time for the first spool change before initiating another spool change for the AMS to read the other spools. In other words, if I were to replace 4 spools in my AMS, I would open the lid and replace 1 spool, let it read the spool (which feeds the filament all the way to the buffer and returns), and only after it stops, I’d initiate the next spool replacement.
In my X1C, the printer screen has an option to re-read the spool, the handy app also has this option, but I’m not sure if the Bambu Slicer has that option.

I will give that a try next time I change one. But it seemed like to me that when I inserted the spool it just pulled it in, but did not feed it to the buffer. It was a few minutes between spool changes.
You can still re-read the spool (through the bambu slicer or the handy app) to see if you have an actual issue, if you wanted to. Although I’m more inclined to think that when you replaced the 4 spools, there wasn’t enough time given after inserting the first spool filament into the AMS feeder tab, as I mentioned previously, if you insert all 4 spool filaments into their feeder tabs one after the other, it will only read 1 of the 4 spools (the first one you inserted).
I think I will try restarting the printer and If I am not mistaken, it should read all the spools. I not sure how I can make it reread the spool. How is this accomplished with Bambu Studio?

It’s really strange, I have 4 AMS’ hooked up to my X1C, and I replace spools of filament on a weekly basis, I’ve never ran into this issue when I give the AMS enough time to read one spool before inserting a second, third, or fourth spool for the AMS to read. Could be I’m just lucky, for now.

When I rebooted the P1S it read all the filaments as it is supposed to. Looks like I will have to wait till I replace a spool and see what happens then. I just updated to Bambu Studio 2.4.0.70 maybe this will fix this issue.

It could be the phrase, (when idle and modification is not supported). I know I was between prints when I changed the filament, but not sure If I was modifying a print in Bambu Studio.
