I have 2 object with parallel surfaces that i want to be join with no overlay and no gap. I’m hoping eye-balling it is not the best way.

You can use the Mesh Boolean tool which I now know how to use.
I would rotate them so the the flat edges are at 90 degrees, then center each one on the plate, the move one of them with the move tool so it only moves in one axis, and eyeball from there.
After they are merged you can rotate it again to fit on the plate.
Microsoft’s 3D Builder would be better choice. It has snap object to object for not eye-balling the gap.
