I’ve been spinning my wheels on this issue for a while and decided to finally create an account and make a post to see if anyone else has come across this issue and found a possible cause and/or fix. Essentially, when printing I found that surfaces that run in the pure x and y axis are far smoother / shinier than surfaces printed in the xy axis (45 deg) which appear more matte. I have tried different temperatures, accelerations, speeds, pressure advance and cooling settings, and have come to the conclusion that its an artifact of the kinematics of a corexy system. Whether its due to the power difference between the two directions, the fact that the xy has to move two rails rather than one, or a issue with interpolating. Ive been testing using the piece included below
When orientating making sure the different legs are aligned to the respective axis
Using Atomic PETG at around 265C, Ive bumped down the temp but it only shifts the problem where the shiny section becomes more matte and as does the matte section
Decreasing cooling seemed to help the most but again didnt completely fix the issue
Studio has a calibration test that helps you avoid VFAs. Enable Develop mode in Preferences and select the test from the top-line Calibration menu. The model prints at several angles and speeds, so it should also show differences in surface gloss.
I believe the model was taken from OrcaSlicer. See the OrcaSlicer Wiki for much better instructions to interpret the results and select print speeds with the least noticeable VFAs.
Thanks for the heads up but I have tried calibrations but do not currently have any issue with ghosting. Rather the issue concerns the surface sheen of the part, and i am curious if anyone else has noticed this behavior
Wall speed is 150mm/s using classic engine, default 5000mm3/s acceleration, no aux fan 75% part cool fan, my biggest question is if you can replicate this issue on your printer with your settings and filament which would suggest its a system issue not a parameter one
