K's Filaments (was: Testing matte PETG this weekend)

And I just found the reason the Sunlu PETG snaps and crackles like rice crispies even though it is pre-dried.

And thus, your conclusion is?
(a.) thoroughly dry Sunlu filament for 12 hours prior to printing, as soon as removed from its package;
(b.) not bother with additional drying, as the additional drying won’t improve much Sunlu’s relatively poor hydrophobic properties;
(c.) not care that much for how dry it is, or it could get; I’ll simply put it in and print (Qué Será, Será);
(d.) dropping Sunlu for being to unreliable (read “thirsty”) for my prints. Going for the next best thing on the market.

So… if you would choose between (a), (b), (c) and (d), which one it’s gonna be?

I swear, every time I touch Sunlu or their offspring companies, I want to bash my head against the wall. Received Inslogic PETG Pro to try, fully sealed bag - opened up and inside there is a tangled mess with plastic that looks like it was warped from overheating…

Usually, there is an expectation that the filament is tightly wounded on the spool and somewhat straight, not like a wavy mess… How come Microcenter 10 dollar PLA has everything fine, but not that “premium” brand lol.

ive had quite a few rolls of Inslogic petg pro here in the UK and all mine have been fine, maybe just unlucky

That’s one way of seeing things: my filaments were fine, (so) maybe (i was) just unlucky. :wink::grin:

Idk dude… idk…

Other years I’ve tried Sunlu several times and something was always off. Their QC is maybe not QC-ing

Here is the new matte PETG. Zoom in to catch the highlights, the more spread out they are is more matte. If you were happy with SUNLU-HF you’ll be OK with this too. Seems stronger than average for matte. Noticeably wet out of the bag at 0.4% .

L to R (increasing matte-ness)
Bambu PETG Basic (original) as a shiny non-matte reference
Bambu PETG Matte (new)
Sunlu PETG-HF
Sunlu PETG 2.0

So very comparable to Sunlu-HF, somewhat on the shiny end of matte.

Roughly sunlu-hf level of matte (sorta matte):
  Bambu Matte ← tested
  CHCKX
  Sunlu HF

Satin matte:
  Tinmorry
  IEMAI
  Sunlu 2.0

Very flat matte (ultra-matte):
  Kexcelled
  eSun

I just ran another one off with the bambu settings instead of generic, it’s even less matte. It’s still ok, if you are just looking for a less shiny but still strong petg you’ll be happy, but if you are looking for truly matte maybe not so much.

Was about to test Matte PETG … but BL and their infinite wisdom of ■■■■■■ packaging.

Who in the right mind puts 1kg objects in a huge box that fly around inside that box… anyway, the package is ruptured, some of the filaments are lost. Thanks UPS, you are great as always.

Now for me it’s time to create another support thread where they would gaslight me into looking it somewhere.

(At least I can test some colors lol)

Either BL support is lurking here or their actual support got better. They already replied and promised to send a new package, no other pointless questions asked. Huh…

Might be one (lucky) occurrence in a few couple of thousands unsolved (or long delayed) tickets…

Nah, not lucky :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: in the follow up message from them - they screwed up and shipped a different thing… That’s BL support I know of hahahahha

I need to remember to pop a Bambu “Advocado Green” into the dryer tonite, hoping it will be matte-er than the previous one tested.

In other news, I got my 1st roll of Sunlu’s new metallic today, the blue one, and did a test print (without drying). It’s very nice, reminds me of Printalot metallic which I would have used more of if I didn’t need to import it from Argentina. When I get some more colors in I’ll put up some test prints, but it’s difficult to capture the deep luster on camera.

Both Inslogic and Sunlu have 3 new metallics in the same 3 colors, the specs are a little different but I’d imagine they must be the same filament. The Sunlu version arrived 1st, but I’ll compare it to the inslogic when it arrives.

Got 3 rolls ordered myself. Going to be interesting to see once I regen my desiccant packs. The sunlu stuff I have been using the last week or so has not had any issues with blobs/zits/clumping whatsoever and I’ve extruded a couple kg of it so far. Just some VERY fine stringing.

My AMS has been at 3-9% (it’s been opened a few times) with alumina desiccant in it.

If the matte stuff performs even remotely “similarly to PLA” it may end up my goto, which is a bit wild as I have hated PETG for the last decade until buying this H2S.

Here is the new sunlu metal fill:

There are L to R:
  Marrakech Bronze
  Brass Gold
  Azurite

(no, this list order is correct!)

If you hand someone the “Bronze” and “Gold” and ask them “which is bronze and which is gold?” they will tell you the reverse of the brand names. The only thing I can think of is they confused bronze and brass, calling it brass would make sense, but not bronze. But then they go on to call the bronze-colored one “Brass Gold”. Confusing. I wonder if they made a mistake in the factory.

So if you want gold, I suggest you want the “Marrakech Bronze”. It looks like a 24K gold bar.

These look good I might have to order a set. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Yes they are a nice, high-fill metallic.

Their ads show a coppery-reddish filament, I’m not sure if that is a 4th unreleased color or what, but neither of my samples are at all reddish.
