For the record: I’ve no idea how cloud connected printers do this at all (nor do I care).
My H2D Pro is in LAN only mode and has never been allowed to access anything at all on the Internet by itself. And while I try to maintain it properly, I’ve never seen any request, reminder, notice, or anything from the printer to get maintenance at all. Only some cheezy thanks for maintaining it message that I’m sure is not related to it knowing it was maintained. FWIW: well over 1500 hours printed.
Similarly, how do you track condition of print hot-ends, timing belts, … etc. ? They simply cannot possibly last forever yet AFAIK the wiki gives neither a way to check the condition of them during regular maintenance, nor a schedule on when to replace them to prevent trouble.
Again: it might be that it’ll eventually will ask for maintenance, but so far I’ve not seen anything from the printer at all.
The belts last a really long time when not abused. Long enough that it shouldn’t be necessary to change them during the lifetime of the printer. My first printer had well above 5000h when it was retired.
In comparison, think about belt driven bicycles. the belts last like 10’000 km while exposed to the elements, dirt, chemicals. Compared to that, the belts in a 3d printer operate almost in laboratory conditions.
You will need to retighten them occasionally, but the printer checks tension before every print. I didn’t get the message when I had an X1C within 1100h.
On my H2D Pro, in LAN-only mode and with blocked access to the Internet, I only see progress bars on the XYZ cleaning and the lead screw lubrication ones and they stay at 0 forever. [Obviously not a H2C, and no laser module is installed, so that one just says it’s not installed]
What firmware version are you running? I remember early on with my H2D it behaved like this, and I believe one of the later firmwares fixed it. I’d have to go dig through firmware notes to confirm.
Also, if you are completely isolating your printer from using NTP, it will not work. You would need to unblock UDP port 123. I understand if you don’t want to unblock anything on your printer’s network. You could host a local NTP server, but that sounds silly to me just to enable progress bars. If that’s the case, follow the maintenance chart I posted above.
I remember that I suddenly received maintenance messages after a firmware update. So I have the feeling that it was an issue and was fixed in an update for my standard H2D.
Unfortunately I don’t remember which update that was.
