You have made your point, and I agree with you to a certain extent. I have mostly searched in English as well. If your intention is to have everyone use English, then it is a poor choice of words and phrasing in your statement. It doesn’t take a native English speaker to see that. I don’t want to muddy the forum, so I suggest that instead of arguing, editing and rephrasing your initial post would make sense to avoid misunderstandings.
The best would be a translation tool implementation à la DeepL.
Forcing anyone to post in a language that isn’t theirs isn’t the solution.
as you can see here… the language doesnt change on the model info or description. it still stays in english
there is nothing to not understand clearly, i am not attacking anyone here and im just making a point that the translators dont work mostly, if it would have been written only in french and would have been a french website i would have written the same thing, my english isnt perfect but like i said i am not attacking anyone or ay nations here and i raelly love asians again so like i said this has nothing to do with hate speach or anything and im not trying to force anyone here to post their models in english im just saying that it would be nice to see it in english so that i wouldnt have to use a translator that most of the time doesnt even work properly as i dont know what diaclect they are using as they are so many. thank you
sorry wasnt meant to use brutal force here I just tought it would be nice to have english at least as a must have as most of us understand it all
and saves us time to not use a translator
While a fine and fair point, this falls short of a perfect solution for a few reasons.
-
It doesn’t make the model show up in searches as we search in English text most of the time.
-
It only works for stuff in the website, and is not always the best translations, so any assembly instructions in a PDF wont get translated.
If they don’t want to do any translation or force ppl to do it simply add a language filter.
In your profile you can select what you language you speak, and if you want the website to be filtered for that.
So if you browse or search the site it won’t list models that are only marked with DE, unless its a part of your language filter.
The only thing I miss on makerworld is the ability to block a user.
Or is there a way to do that?
First of all, this is a global site. English happens to be the most used here. I have seen other non-English descriptions on MW and posts here on the forum. What is the reason to single out Chinese?
You can use French, if you want. I don’t see any reason that people should object to that.
translations on websites can be tricky and not helping at all or confusing if you prefer, there is already a chinese website… why mix both togheter when there is already 2 different website languages ? I think personally that when I go on a website and I click on english Id like to see that website in english and if I click on the french or whatever other language well that it actually shows that specific language, simple as that, thanks
its MakerWorld not makerworld.com/cn or /fr lol I think i made my point here, im not mad or anything its just very confusing to read chinese to me and to try to find a model that is actually written in chinese that I saw couple months ago… just leave it simple ?
“A picture is worth a thousand words”
Again it’s a global site, not an English site. English is the language used for global communication out of tradition for a long while now, but it doesn’t mean that no other languages are allowed.
And again, you are free to use French in the global site. No one should have problems with that. One day if BL decides to specifically grow the French market and builds a French site, you, and all of us, will be able to publish models in all the sites: the global site, the Chinese site, and the French site.
again… i dont think you got my point but i guess others did got the same idea as me here so … thanks for sharing your thoughts
exactly what i was trying to explain thanks, I guess some dont get it here…
also just to make it more clear to you… MAKERWORLD to me its english name … world is english … never heard it in any other languages yet. maker is also english … so your claiming that chinese made it ?why because the printers are made in china ? i dont think it matters if they are using an english website name to be honest to me its still english name and english website lol. so your point is not really helping out here I guess, there is also a chinese version of the webiste. Just to make it more obvious to you… do you see any prusa printables website go by their original language on their website ? have you ever seen any model written in their native language ? why dont they do it ?" hmmmm probably because english is the most easy language to auto translate I guess ??? but yeah thanks for sharing your thoughts here
Here’s some recourse:
Look at another model that won’t bother you just because a model is in another language (and heaven forbid, in an Asian language).
And if you absolutely must have the model, and translation tools are not up to your expectations, go learn the language (and bless you if it’s an Asian language), or make a friend that can help.
Personally, I appreciate the global nature of MW, especially as many models are unique with cultural backdrops. I also appreciate seeing comments in other languages in my models, even if I’ve to use translation tools; it gives me that little satisfaction that someone cared to comment even if they don’t write English natively.
It’s MakerWorld Global, as that name is referenced throughout MW’s notification about the launch of MakerWorld China. For example: "we will be syncing your eligible models and Print Profiles from MakerWorld Global to MakerWorld China. … "
Sure, the word MakerWorld is English, as is the name MakerWorld China. These words don’t make any of these two sites English-only sites. Furthermore, all URLs are in English, and all IP addresses are in Arabic numbers. These facts don’t make all sites English or Arabic.
Mastery of English is never a prerequisite for becoming a good 3D model designer. I haven’t been specifically looking for them, but I have seen models in non-English on platforms such as Printables and MW. I hope more people who don’t speak English share their designs, and engage in 3D printing in whatever language they feel comfortable using.
You have registered your unhappiness of running into the Chinese language in MW. But other than trying to provide a different perspective for you to consider, I don’t know how to help alleviate your pain. Maybe what @01makes suggested above can be considered?
I’m trying, I’m trying!
I guess makerworld listen and are doing improvements as the way i was explaining before… try to find a model that you printed a while ago if its writen in chinese but you saw this model while scrolling through all the other models you actually printed because you dont know the name of it… or just try to read a pdf file or images of the assembly in chinese. same applies for any other languages if id see arabic typo id ask the same but i dont i only see chinese typo
