Large Diagonal Line in Thin Wall Prints

Hello all! I recently purchased an H2D and have been loving it. The only issue I have had so far is on a few of my thin wall prints they develop a thick, diagonal line on an inside wall. This wall is printed at 125 degrees from vertical and consists of 3 walls. It is thin, but I have done this same print on several cheaper printers without issue. The diagonal bump can only be seen from the inside, the outside looks fantastic!

I have used a number of PLAs, different STL files, different Z angles, and have determined that the slicer is not creating the Z-seam in this location.

Most of the BambuStudio settings are defaulted to the 0.16mm Balanced Quality group.

Looks like a seam. What do you have seam settings set to?

Hello! That was my first assumption as well, however, the seam is set to “Aligned” and can be seen in that inside sharp corner just to the left of the picture.

Pure curiosity here, do you have Timelapse enabled? If you’re saying the seam is in a different location, I wonder if this is where it’s taking its Timelapse photo. I only say this because when doing vase mode prints, which aren’t supposed to have a seam at all, and using Timelapse it’ll create a seam in the print.

Is there any geometry on the other side of that wall?

If you bring the file into studio and separate it by parts, does it separate right there?

Just throwing out ideas to check.

Hi Qjo, thanks for the message!
Timelapse is not enabled, though I hope to start using that at some point, so your seam information is very good to know.
This wall is flat on either side, and the outside is printed very smooth where the bump is.
The file is all one piece, and this diagonal line occurs whether I have have one part or ten in the slicer.

Thanks for the response, it is good to think through these things!

In Bambu Studio preview, can you see what it’s doing?
You can use the drop down to check different things to see what might be causing it.

On the right side of the preview is a vertical green bar you can drag down to get to the problem layers, at the bottom there’s a horizontal bar to ‘play’ that layer so you can skip to where that seam is.

You mentioned that the slicer isn’t creating the Z-seam at this location so perhaps you’ve already done this anyway.

If you move the model on the print bed, does the seam move?
