Pretty impressed with the laser rotary attachment so far. I ordered a bulk pack of cups from Amazon to dial it in and make giveaways for my business.
Build quality is great, feels solid. Doesn’t really lock into the pins on the table like I’d expect, but it doesn’t seem to matter. Solidly grips cups.
Speed is good, but the built in profiles are way off. I tried the first one with default settings, the time estimate was over an hour. Turning off 2 pass and turning on bidirectional, along with some optimization of my art got these cups down to under 12 mins for art on two sides. Not bad! (40w laser). Easy swap in and out.
300mm/s is about as fast as it goes, higher speeds have no effect. These are 300mm/sec and 30% power. It lasers each piece of art individually, so there’s a lot of acceleration/deceleration time - perhaps in a future software version it could just spin the piece continuously.
Wiki instructions are overly hard to follow and seem to show photos of a preproduction rotary. It’s easier than they make it seem. I’m doing no leveling, it surface maps just fine.
Software lacks some basic alignment options, like centering. Preview is useful, and it imports PDF vector files, not just SVG. Mapping of 3d surfaces works.
Overall, I feel like Bambu delivered a solid product… wish it hadn’t taken a year.
