I cannot find anything on this so hoping someone might know.
I upgraded my H2D with the Laser kit today (10w), and it’s just not working right.
I’ve tried 3 times to do a simple cut for a box I found on makerworld. I am getting constant fire detection (there is no fire whatsoever), and even when it does allow it to work, it is not cutting through the 3mm plywood — it just etches a burn into it.
I tried both methods of thickness detection for the material but it makes no difference. It’s not cutting through.
Anyone have similar issues with fire detection false alarms and also just flat out not cutting?
I have the H2D laser combo and it works perfectly with both the 10W and 40W lasers.
Therefore, I’d guess you forgot something or did something wrong during the update. Go through all the installation steps again and check everything. If necessary, open a ticket with BL, because lasers are nothing to mess around with.
So I tried with the birchwood just for kicks, and it was fine. The sapele sets off false fire alarms it seems on mine. Have you ever seen differences with materials?
I did set up a ticket with Bambu but who knows how long it will take.
I’ve used all types of BambaLab wood; some varieties smoke significantly more than others, which could be a reason, but so far it hasn’t triggered any fires.
I did…everything looks fine…done exactly per instructions and video. I even went back in and cleaned all of the sensors just to be sure. It’s just odd that one material causes false alarms and another doesn’t. I’m a veteran 3d printer but the laser thing is brand new to me. Could it be settings? Bambu Suite is something I’m not yet familiar with…
Is your air pump properly connected to the laser? The air keeps the path of the laser free of smoke and debris.
I never have cut wood with mine, but you might also have a look at the speed settings. You have the capability to adjust some process settings in the lower left corner.
This is quite unusual—please keep us updated when you identify the root cause.
Unfortunately, I cannot run experiments on my own system as it is configured for laser operation. Could you clarify what other differences exist between the upgrade kit (which has the external air pump) and the standard configuration?
I don’t know if there are any. Basically when you install it, you change out the glass, add a Birds Eye cam, add the air pump and that’s about it.
I just tried again with a different material (black walnut), and no false alarms and perfect cut! So I thought well let’s try the sapele again…same exact issue. Multiple false fire alarms. I’m still waiting on bambu’s response, but it’s GOTTA be something with that sapele. Maybe crazy thought, but could the redness of the material be causing the system to think it’s on fire? Just seems weird that the other materials were fine!
Small update, but I tried bamboo now and found it’s giving me the same false flame alerts as sapele. I updated my ticket and waiting on Bambu to resolve. Very frustrating!
I think this is resolved. Bambu got back to me and asked me to perform the focal distance calibration again. I had already done it twice so I suspected it was BS. However, they were right…after I did it the third time, it now cuts through both sapele and bamboo pretty easily, and I’m not getting the false fire alarm.
One thing though I noticed…every once in a while one or two of the red lights on the fire monitoring screen will blink red for a few seconds, and then go back to white. Again, no alarms…but is that normal?
