Layer ripping after overhang?

I looked but i didn’t see anyone with the same problem having asked already.

My prints seem to rip the layer adjacent to an overhang. Is this a speed/acceleration issue? Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might fix the issue? Ive tried messing with most basic settings, switching PLAs, calibrating filaments, etc but nothing seems to address the issue.

P1S, 0.4 nozzle - Basically using presets, 0.08 extra fine, classic walls (2), PLA.

Thanks

Hi @Jnxdrcg ,

Welcome to the forum,

In the white print, there seem to be issues in the wall quality since earlier layers, even if not so severe.
What’s the overhang angle in the orange print?

Assuming that the filament is dry (if not, please do it first) and calibrated (flow and PA), and since you are already using a layer profile, I suggest a simple test:

  • Switching to the standard profile (0.08mm high-quality) instead of the extra-fine one → will reduce the printing speed and may improve the layer cooling;
  • print an overhang test to avoid wasting filament and also get more straightforward to interpret results;

Also, take a quick read on the troubleshooting guide, specifically highlighted sections:
Bad overhang quality

Thanks for the reply. I did dry the filament prior to printing and thankfully I’m in Arizona where our humidity is nearly non-existent. The overhang seems to print ok, it’s just the remaining portion of the layer immediately after the overhang that is affected. I printed an overhang test and it came out ok on a .02 setting but imploded on a 0.08. I really would like to print on the extra fine because of the nice surface it leaves but I’ll give the .02 a try again and see if the results are any different.
