Layer shift on flat surfaces with P1S – only on sides, not curves?

Hi everyone

I’ve always wanted to have a 3D printer and have been eyeing the Bambulab for quite a while. Now with the sale, I just couldn’t resist and finally went for it. I got the P1S Combo.

I’m really impressed so far.

However, my second print ended up with a layer shift across the flat areas. The strange thing is that the shift only appears on the sides, not on any of the rounded parts. You can see it clearly in the photos. There’s nothing wrong with the model itself: Link to model.

For this print, I used the green test filament (250g) that came with the printer from Bambulab. I started the print via the Bambulab iOS app.

The print actually failed shortly before it was finished (at 98%) because there was an issue with the AMS spool and no more filament was fed. Could that be the reason for the layer shift, or am I doing something wrong here?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Same Problem different colour :relieved:

Your photos don’t show the ‘whole picture’ of what’s going on.

Like this picture shows it didn’t shift in the same direction, more like expanding than shifting.

no whole model, but I think it has something to do with the layer time.

I agree. This looks like the filament is not calibrated properly. The problems happen at the transition between the base and the walls, then again where the first cut-out parts appear at the top. Each time, there is a dramatic change in layer times. If extrusion rate, pressure advance, etc is not properly calibrated, it can give these symptoms.

Hey, thanks a lot for your help!

The green filament is from Bambu and the black one is from Elegoo. The issues happen with both filaments… could it really be because of the filament? I thought I wouldn’t need to calibrate if I’m using the original Bambu filament. :frowning:

After that, I printed a vase with the Elegoo filament, and it turned out absolutely perfect! My wife was really impressed and is already planning more projects – even though she was pretty much against getting a 3D printer before.^^

Then I printed a poop container with the Bambu filament, and the exact same artifacts appeared again. It always happens when there’s a break or change in the pattern… one side looks good, but the other side is a disaster. Or does the printer have a problem? Or do I really need to calibrate even the Bambu filament?

I am getting a similar issue where ever there is 3D features in the Z dimension. Serviced the machine, ran calibration and no change. I am yet to try different filament.

Let me know if you figure it out and I will do the same.

Can anyone else share their experience with this? Does my printer need maintenance? Did I maybe get a faulty unit? Because the errors are exactly the same on both the green and the black prints, even though they’re different filaments.
