Layers separating on prints (Multiple nozzles, filament, printer settings)

I’ve been pritning with my A1 mini for the better part of a year with no issues, however lately when I go to print I’m seeing layer adhesion issues with layers separating on my prints. Think of an oreo pulling apart between the filling and the cookie. I have tried multiple filaments and multiple stl’s using print by object and also print by layer and am seeing the same results. This has happened with high resolution 0.2mm nozzle prints, along with normal 0.4mm nozzle prints.

The layer split isn’t always at the same height so I’m ruling out there’s anything on the z axis that’s causing any sort of jump. I’m kind of at a loss as this came out of the blue recently and has been prominant on a lot of recent prints when this has been a bulletproof machine for the longest time.

I’m thinking this is a cooling problem but unsure how to best move forward. I had noticed the front cover on the extruder assembly was off previously I’m not sure if that would make an impact so I’m trying a print at the moment with a 0.4mm nozzle with a default print profile.

Problem: Prints are separating between layers after printing. This problem exists when there’s longer print times, quick 15 minute prints don’t have this issue.

Printer Used: Using an A1 Mini with AMS light. This has been working for months but this problem has recently appeared using the same set up

Slicer Settings: Had used variable layer height on a few, but no changes for the ones shown in the pictures that I can recall.

Filament Used: I’ve been using elegoo PLA+ along with sunlu PLA+. I hadn’t had trouble with either of these filaments before, when not in use they are stored in ziploc bags with desicant packages inside the bags.

Photo’s of the Issue: The following photos show the separation on bases used for miniature wargaming. Note this has happened with playing card holders and other prints as well.

Any information or thoughts would be very much appreciated. Hoping to get some stuff printed before an event I’m attending in September.

Is the separation occurring where the solid bottom layers transition to layers with infill? Cooling issues can cause issues like this.

  • When was the last time you actually dried your filament? This is the hot & humid time of year and storing in a bag with dessicant may not be enough.
  • You could increase the walls for the base with a modifier.
  • You could try a different infill patterns such as gyroid or cubic that does not induce stress into the walls like th default pattern.

Please print a benchy using a totally default print profile.

Something is very wrong, but it’s hard to rule out slicer, machine, or material given the available information.

If you look at the first photo you can see the separated pieces on the desk where you can see the infill in both pieces, it’s above where it transitions from solid to infill.

I’m printing the “Benchy Bambu PLA Basic” file from maker world using the “Generic PLA” filament profile, with the “0.20mm Standard @ BBL A1M” Global Print Settings. Will provide an update once it’s completed printing. (should be an hourish)

these were using the settings mentioned previously. there’s a few spots where the layers looked like they had a bit of tiny gap between them I tried to highlight these in the photos. the shift in photo 4 has the lighting causing it to look worse than it is IMO.

The point where the shift happens isn’t common to the other prints where I’ve seen issues as they were typically about a quarter the way up from the bottom of the boat to the upper edge on the back part of the boat.
